Get better soon Taiyo and all of our friends

The weeks are flying by and we are learning so many things each day. We have been missing so many of our friends in our class downstairs, and today we learnt that Taiyo is in hospital with pneumonia. We are so sorry that he is not well and next week some of our teachers will go and visit him so we started to make something for him from all of us. We also have missed Karl, Pauline, Vincent and Haruto this week and hope that they will be back at school tomorrow so that we can play with them.

???????????????????????????????In our class today, we continued speaking about animals and we played a game with animals in a box. Shelley sat on two of our circle shaped cushions and had a box on her lap. She shook the box and asked us to guess what there was inside the box but………….we tried and tried and then……she held the lid up so that we couldn’t peep inside. Then she sang a song: “What is inside the box, what is inside the box, what is inside the box, I wonder what it is”. Eventually we started singing the song too as it was repetitive and we learnt that words really quickly. Each time, she changed her voice as she slid an animal slowly up towards the lid. We tried to guess what animal it was even before we saw the entire shape and we were quite quick. We saw an elephant, a lion with a huge open mouth, a duck, a kangaroo, a rabbit, a warthog, a yak, a monkey, ostrich, hippopotamus, zebra, pig, raccoon, mouse, ???????????????????????????????horse, dog, cat and koala. The animals are all on our chalkboard so that we can learn their names and remember them.

Hisami gave us each a colourful piece of paper and we put stickers on it, drew pictures and pasted paper on it. We all put a photograph of our face on the card so that Taiyo can see us and be reminded of us at school, waiting for him to get better. We will make cards with our friends who come to school tomorrow so that all of us have a card for Taiyo.

At another of our activity tables, we worked on our theme “Above and Below” which is related to spring, growth, new beginnings and more. On the long strip of brown paper, we already pasted insects and seeds as these go under the ground. On the green strip we pasted stems of flowers and plants and the petals and flowers themselves. Today at the table, with a few of us, Shelley spoke about roots and she showed us pictures of a tree with the roots growing under the ground. She asked us what we think would happen if the tree didn’t have roots and we were not sure. She also asked us how we thought that plants grew or ate their food. She showed us the roots and explained to us that they are like straws and when the plants are hungry, they drink the water from the soil through the roots and get their food from the soil. If a big wind comes and a tree doesn’t have roots, it will blow trees and plants over. So now we know that roots are really important. So today we put roots onto our collage. We cut some wool/yarn into strips and them pasted them underneath all of the plants.  We did a few Yoga poses just before we went to the park and had a great full day at school with our friends and teachers.

??????????????????????Ava and Allie went to play with the large cardboard castle that was set up along the edge of the carpet. Many of us wanted to join them and help them decorate. Our castle looks amazing and the next big project we have to do, is make the drawbridge. On the activity tables, Beckett, Clodia and Tokutaro helped join together some of the styrofoam walls for our model castle. DSCF3269We first had to put glue on the edges of one of the pieces and then using small toothpicks, which we pushed into the sides of the styrofoam, we connected the pieces together. We placed rubber bands around the pieces to hold them together while they dry. We continued to make bracelets for our treasure box.In the park, there was beautiful sunshine and the air was much warmer than usual . During circle time, we led the singing for “Open them, shut them” which was one of the songs that we sang today.

Our story was called “Can’t you make them behave, King George”. We played with our castle puppet theatre enacting the King George story. We learnt through watching the puppets, that a castle can have a king or a queen in charge. In this story, it told us about the queen being called Elizabeth, her son Prince Charles and her daughter, Princess Diana. The king became sick and he and the queen left the palace/castle and Prince DSCF3283Charles became the king. We are really loving this theme and are learning many new words to add to our vocabulary and much more.

Thanks for a wonderful day and get well soon, all of our friends.

DSCF3263Love always, Shelley, Darren, Hisami, Ayaka, Liezel, Nanako, Goh, Christine, Maryna, Sharee and Rama
