Reading Music

DSCF7333This morning on the table we saw lots and lots of pots and pans along with some metal spoons. We soon discovered that they looked a lot like drums and when we banged them they all made different sounds. The size and how hard we banged them made them sound different with each one. On the main table Jessica, Jeremy and Wesley all made a guitar each with the tissue boxes, card tubes and elastic bands just like their friends did yesterday. They decorated them with tape and colored markers too. Kai made a second guitar along with Bill and they then joined them together to make one super long double ended guitar. On the second table Gaby used the big plastic tweezers to pick up plastic sparkly jewels and put them in colored cups. It was quite difficult because theDSCF7337 sparkly jewel shapes were quite slippery and hard. The big floor piano was again popular today DSCF7341and Ayaka showed us how to play ‘twinkle, twinkle little star’ using her feet which was lots of fun. After packing away the toys and eating our yummy snacks we went to the park with our friends. We were lucky to see our friends in buds and petals class too. It was warm in the park but the sun was hiding behind the clouds. When we got back from the park the first thing we did was to check today’s calendar. Gaby knew it was June, Lucinda the 16th and Nile Tuesday. Thank you guys for helping with the calendar. We then looked at the book “I’m a little teapot’ with our friends and saw at the back the musical notes that go with the song. Ayaka then showed us what theDSCF7344 notes are and how they sound. We learnt that some of the notes mean I beat, some two and some pauses. Using this we played ‘Twinkle, twinkle little star’ using the pots and metal spoons from DSCF7346this morning. We knew that if we played one beat, one pause, one beta, one pause in that pattern it would make the sounds for the song. We then got to try some other instruments instead of pots. Ayaka showed us a box of musical instruments. We recognized some of them and each of us got a whistle, castanets, a small flute or a harmonica. This time Ayaka stepped on the floor piano to play along and then told us about the person in charge of the musicians, yes the conductor. Ayaka showed us how to start at the same time and finish at the same time too by watching her hands as she conducted. Thank you Ayaka for a wonderful musical experience! Have a great afternoon,

All our love, Ayaka, Darren, Sharee & Bill
