Preparing for Mothers Day
The sunshine greeted us this morning and when we were in the park, we all felt the heat. Some of us had wet hair from sweating so much underneath our sunhats. We spent the morning making something special for our mums which we shouldn’t tell you about. We can give you just a little bit of information about what we did. We used paint and our finger tips to make something and then we wrote our names and some words. Our mums will
receive these special things at our Mothers Day breakfast on Friday 8th May…..next week is a really short week and it is also full of events.
When we made our finger print paintings today, on some of the shapes, we could see patterns which are our own unique prints. There are no prints like ours in
the whole world. We spent time cutting out pictures which we thought reminded us of our mums and pasted them onto a piece of coloured paper. Our teachers asked us what colour we would like and we all chose colours that we wanted to. We then pasted the pictures that we had cut out of magazines, onto the coloured paper. We will work on them on Thursday and Friday when we return to school.
Michaela was in charge of the calendar today. Once we had changed the day of the week, the date and the weather, she stood up with the pointer finger and read it out to us. It was funny because today we didn’t change the weather, because it was the same as yesterday. We all placed our names onto the white magnetic board this morning on the left side which had the
words “I am here today” on the top. On the right side were our friends names who were not at school today. We missed Taiyo, Koh, William L, Miyu and Luka. We are looking forward to seeing some of them return to school on Thursday and Friday of this week. We hope that Taiyo is having a great time on his holiday with his family and we wish William L, get well soon, as he has been sick for the past two days.
As you know, every day for the past week or more, we have been playing our CD with songs that we are going to be singing at our End of Year Party. We usually sing along with the songs but today, our teachers wanted to see if we could sing without the CD. So we sat together, listened to one song on the CD and then sang it without the CD. We did this for all of the songs on the CD and
our teachers saw that we memorised almost all of the songs. We will practice singing in this way for the next few weeks, up until our party, which will mark the end of our year in Petals Class. Another interesting thing that we did today was regarding our names. When we sit together for circle time and our teachers ask us to find our names and
place them on the magnet board, many of us seem to be able to recognize our friends names. So we played a game with them. Each of us had to go to the white magnetic board and find the name of one of our friends, that our teachers had called out. We were all successful and our teachers were amazed that we could “read” all of the names.
Michaela completed her “koinobori” this morning and we love seeing them hanging in our classroom, just like the ones that people
hang outside of their homes. Have a wonderful day with your families tomorrow and see you on Thursday ! Love always Shelley, Hisami and Liezel
