Animals in the sea
It was a rainy Thursday but that didn’t stop the Buds to have their own indoor adventure. As we all gathered for our play time, we noticed that Ritsuka really liked playing with rice on our
activity table. She sometimes spilled some rice on the floor so we had to remind her to be very careful. Lanah and Leanne were both playing with the play dough; they said that they were making small balls out of it.
Haruto and Hana were having their transportation play. Both of them were putting the people (plastic toys) in the fire truck. They said that they were trying to rescue them so they pushed the truck as fast as they can. Rupert and
Karl got their own toyboats and and put them in the toy slide. Rupert would get some cars to show his teachers and then he would say, “cars, cars, cars” if he got a truck, he would do the same.
After playtime, we did our circle time. It was fun to sing “Skidamarink” because in the middle of the song our teachers would tell us to have a high five or hug each other. Lanah, Leanne and Hana were singing the song well and loud. They loved showing affection all the time. Dominik was also
cooperative and he liked singing the number song and A,B,C in class. Circle time is very important for us because we are getting to know our friends more and learning how to interact with each other as a group.
Also, our teachers showed some plastic sea animals. We saw a lobster, stingray, clownfish, shark, seahorse, jellyfish and the octopus. It was nice seeing them in the ocean. We had the chance to touch these toys by passing them around. Each of us tried to say the
words. We also learned that we have to make sure that these animals will stay in the water otherwise they might get sick. We also sang some songs while playing with them and Leanne really stood up straight and started singing with her imaginary microphone, it was really cute to see her do that because it gave the children the idea that there was a famous singer in the class.
After our fun free playtime, we headed for our art tables to do our turtle plate! What we did was we put some cut-out paper to paste on our turtle shell. We all had our own glue sticks
and our teachers gave us the pieces of paper to stick on the paper plate. At first, it was a bit challenging to put all the glue on each piece but we later found out that we could actually put the glue first and later paste the cut-outs on the plate. Some of the younger kids needed help in doing this activity so our
teachers were very nice because they always made time for each kid in our class.
After we have done our turtle plate, we went to our ocean painting. We put it on the floor and we took out all our sea animal plastic toys. Sofie would go to John from time to time and ask what animal she is holding. For example, she would ask “What is this? (then, she would try to show the animal)”. She was very curious about the sea animals and she showed everyone the “snail, jellyfish and the stingray”.
Sofia and Ritsuka were also a bit busy playing with some of the toys that we have in the classroom. Ritsuka would find some toy cars and animals from the boxes while Sofia would go
from our activity table to our circle time corner to gather more toys.
Lastly, we had to make some seaweed art for our ocean. John taught us to put a droplet of paint on our paper and then we would blow or shake our paper gently, just to spread the colors around and to make an artistic effect on it. At first, we all thought that it was very challenging but our teachers showed us patiently that we can shake it up and down or blow the paint carefully. And it finally worked! Of course, the younger ones in our class couldn’t help but use their
hands. They just scribbled and scribbled until the paint was all over the paper. And we felt that it was okay too. This is one of our other forms of expressions through art.
Again, thank you so much teachers who have been very patient and kind with us. Hope to see you all again tomorrow!
Love,
John, Sayaka and Maki
