Autumn art and bye bye Iva
5 November – Daily Journal
There were lots of acorns and leaves on the sensory table today. Buds were quick to sit at the table and explore. We added some cups and some spoons and tongs so Buds could choose to use their hands or get their fine motor skills going by using the tongs and picking up acorns and putting them into the bowls. Some Buds liked sorting the acorns into big and small too.
On the art table there were so many leaves, all different colors, shapes and sizes. Buds chose an autumn colored frame from the brown, orange, red and yellow ones on the table and then stuck
leaves onto the contact paper. It was interesting to see how Buds reacted when they stuck the leaves on but their fingers or palm got a little stuck on the contact paper too. Buds soon realized to be careful to push the leaf on to the paper by their fingers, not their whole hand so it wouldn’t stick.
After clean up this morning we all sat down at the tables and looked at Iva’s art portfolio. Buds were so interested in looking at it and some wanted to take theirs home. But
it was Iva’s last day so we were looking at all the beautiful art she has done and we made a couple of goodbye pages. Buds decided o
‘Bye Iva’ to write at the top of the page and then all Iva’s friends took turns to draw on the pages. Once everyone had a turn Buds found a photo of themselves and stuck it on the pages too.
In circle time we talked about giving gentle hugs and Lanah helped demonstrate how which made everyone want to so we danced to the music and when it stopped we gave our friends a gentle hug. Because it was Iva’s last day we
wanted to give lots of hugs to Iva. We also sang our new autumn song ‘Autumn leaves are falling down’, to the tune of London Bridge. We threw leaves up into the air and let them flutter down. Oops we discovered that autumn leaves break easily so we made a bit of a mess on the carpet. Nevermind, Buds helped to pick them up and put them in the basket and thanks to Leizel for vacuuming the rest up.
We collected some more leaves at the park but the slide was more interesting for most Buds today. Yurika showed great confidence and went up the steps and down the twisty slide by herself. Faith went up and down a lot too and then ran into the teacher’s arms. Jonah was busy following Lanah on the slide and playing with her. Riku likes to be at the top of the big slide and observe everyone.
Thanks for a great day
