Pumpkin pumpkin on the ground
27 October – Daily Journal
It’s starting to feel like Halloween! Our classroom is getting filled with orange and black Halloween art and we are having fun practicing our Halloween songs. We love our orange play dough. It is so soft and Buds can manipulate it so well making all kinds of things. We had some laminated Jack-o-lanterns on the table for a change today and buds had to put the play dough on them in the shape of a pumpkin.
Our fingers were busy this morning as we also ripped up lots of white paper to use for a ghost we are making. Some buds needed help to put their thumbs together at the top of the paper and pull one thumb forward and push the other thumb back.
In circle time today we carved our Halloween pumpkin. Once Sayaka had carved each part, Buds helped to pull out the eyes, mouth and nose. What could we see inside? We all had turns to have a look inside the pumpkin. The pumpkin is orange on the outside and orange inside too. Lanah pointed inside the pumpkin and asked Sayaka, “What’s that?” Hana also asked, “What’s that?” Sayaka asked back, “What do you think this is?” and pointed out pumpkin seeds. Lanah said, “I don’t know” Sayaka said, “It’s seeds. Pumpkin seeds.” All buds looked at the
pumpkin seeds. Sayaka asked buds, “Do you think you can eat pumpkin seeds?” Nobody answered but some buds were smiling. Karl even tried to smell the pumpkin. When he smelled it, he moved his nose and made a funny face. Sayaka said, “We might eat them tomorrow. But we need to wash them before we eat.” Buds are wondering what pumpkin seeds taste like. We practiced our Halloween songs and dances too.
We headed up to Petals class to do our gym class and as usual had a lot of fun stretching, jumping and moving our bodies. Today we played a game where we were walking on and around the cushions and Tanaka sensei blew a whistle, buds needed to sit down. Buds really enjoyed rolling the cushions.
When we got to the park, buds could tell that it was raining last night. So, the teachers wiped the slides so we wouldn’t get wet. Many buds went up and down the other slide many times. Kaia and Sofie were using up lots of energy going up one lot of stairs and down the other. Everyone ended up quite sweaty at the park today.
Thank you
