A great gym class!
20 October – Daily Journal
We had a very busy morning before we sat down to snack time. Phew! On the fine motor and sensory table Buds had fun with play dough and used as many utensils as they could today. Buds also used scissors to do some cutting. Everyone is at a different level so we have snipping at the paper and paper
being cut in half.
Sofie made her Halloween Trick or Treat bag and because we only had a small group, we sat down together at the table to do circle and some Halloween art. We talked about going on the bus to do potato digging so we sang ‘Wheels on the Bus’ and then we practiced pulling the vines. We used some yarn and pulled it while Sharee held the other end. What colors do we see a lot at Halloween wondered the teachers…”White, Black, Orange” said Buds. We had fun drawing some Halloween pictures. Some Buds drew Witches and Jack ‘o lanterns but most Buds were happy just using Halloween colors and drew their families or explored all the different black and orange crayons, markers and pastels on offer. We were going to add collage
material to their pictures but they looked so good already we didn’t want to so we made separate collage pictures. Some Buds dipped their finger/s into the glue and spread the glue on the paper and then chose which items to stick on. Other Buds chose an item and put it in the glue and then stuck it on the paper. Either way it is a great
sensory and fine motor activity while creating beautiful art.
Yay, we went to the third floor for gym class today. Tanaka sensei did all our sitting positions so quickly and Buds could keep up really well. There is such an improvement in their skills already. We jumped like bunnies, and were on all fours like bears. Buds practiced their balancing skills by…….We also played a game where we were walking on running around the cushions and Tanaka sensei said “Ichi, ni, san, shi, go-rira (gorilla) and when Buds heard gorira they had to quickly sit on the cushions.
We had a look at our magic Witch to see if it has grown. Buds were excited to see it is bigger. Buds wanted to know if they could touch it so after we measured it and recorded it on the chart, Buds took a turn to hold the Witch.
At the park we pretended to pull the vines and then we dug with our hands to find potatoes. We also had some shovels but we think it’s better to use our hands if we can. We were then inspired to take the trowels/shovels with buckets around the park and do some digging. Once we had finished digging Lanah and Sofie joined up to chase Hana and Iva and then they swapped and continue a chasing game for a long
time. Everyone ended up quite sweaty at the park today.
Thank you
