Practicing for Sports Day

It was another busy day and not only were we busy in our classroom, but the school is busy moving; the office is going all the way up to the top floor and we will have an outdoor play space and new MPR soon. In fact, all the office staff had their first meeting up there this morning.

??????????????????????We started off our day making paper balls for our class Tamaire game. We squeezed newspaper and some recycled packaging paper into balls. Then Hisami used one of the red buckets as a basket and she held it low and then high and we tried to throw the balls into the bucket. We did it again later using a basket and eventually managed??????????????????????????????? to get all of the balls into the basket. We will be playing Tamaire as part of our Sports Day on Monday, so this was a good practice for us. We also practiced our egg and spoon race with a spoon and a rubber ball. Today we walked up and down the carpet twice and all of us had a turn. We are really looking forward to Sports Day and we are trusting that the typhoon will not be as disruptive as it was last week.

Lilian, Michaela and Luka had an interesting start to their day at school. Ava and Olivia were in our class because their mums were in a meeting. They of course ??????????????????????have not spent a lot of time in our classroom lately and therefore wanted to look at many of the things that we made recently. Olivia discovered the person that we made using stockings and newspaper. She was a little worried about the fact that it was “naked” so she decided to dress it. She chose some beautiful clothes from our dress up corner and even put shoes on it. Then Michaela also wanted to dress up and so we have some wonderful photos of this.

At the big activity table, we had free drawing and our teachers have ???????????????????????????????decided that we need to have a table like this every day. We love drawing, cutting, pasting, folding etc and with a big array of materials, we have the opportunity to make anything and everything. Today, Lilian coloured in a picture that Ava, her sister, had drawn.

We changed our calendar this morning and instead of singing our “Hello” song in the class, we sang it on the way to the park. We sang our ‘Five little ghosts song” but this time we had six. We all know that when we hear the words “one little ghost went out of sight”, we hide one ghost at a time.

??????????????????????We learnt about different things that you can find, in nature and sat together after the park, talking and listening. We looked at different shapes leaves and their colours. We noticed that one of our leaves has yellow, green, orange, red, pink and brown on it. We saw a giant leaf as well as really small ones. We touched one that was shiny and smooth and we touched one that felt smooth like a blanket. Shelley put her hands underneath the leaves and she found some acorns. We ??????????????????????sang our acorn song in English and then “Five little leaves”. We looked at acorns, pine needles, cicada shells, and bark, which we remembered was the skin from trees. We now have a few items from nature on display in our classroom plus our tray of leaves, with some hidden treasures underneath them.

We listened to a story about two leaves that were on the same tree. They changed colour as the seasons changed and then during Autumn time, they fell from the tree. Michaela told us that leaves fall from ???????????????????????????????trees during Autumn time. Each leaf fell at a different time and when the second one fell from the tree, it went in search of its friend. Eventually it found the leaf, hidden underneath a pile of leaves. When they looked at one another, they saw that they looked different now. The one was brown and the other one was yellow, brown and golden. Even though they were different, they still remained friends and looked after one another all the time.???????????????????????????????

We hope that all of our friends, teachers and their families have a wonderful weekend……see you for Sports Day.

Love always Shelley, Hisami and Liezel.
