After settling in our special circle time in the library, we sang a birthday song for Ta who is celebrating his 5th birthday tomorrow. He will answer our special questions for birthday celebrants when we have his party next month. Then, Y went in front of everyone for Teach Me How.

TEACH ME HOW

·       Y: I will teach you to cut apple. First, we need salt and water. Then, we cut apple with a knife. Now, we put the apples in the water. We need to keep it in the water. It is my snack for later.

Everyone was amazed to see how Y easily and quickly cut the apples into small pieces. Most of us haven’t tried cutting apples before. We were all eyes as he taught how to make a “cat hand” to hold the apple, and then use the knife with our other hand.

(Questions)

Th: Why you have to put in water?

Y: So, apples will not be brown.

Th: Does it mean it will be bad?

Y: Yes!

O: Why cut the apples?

Y: Because it’s so big.

Ta: Where you bought that knife from?

Y: When I was three, but I don’t remember.

T: Why do you have a knife?

Y: Because I need to cut apples. I don’t cut everything yet.

M: Who teach you cut apples?

Y: My mommy. You need to do cat hand and then cut the apple.

·

Ve: I can make paper to stars. First, I want to open this one and thin one. So many open! Next, this color is pink, and this one is blue. Fold and this side. It’s a star but I am not finished yet.

Ve showed us how to make the folds in the origami paper and then cut it at the top. When she opened the paper, we were so amazed when she showed us a star-shaped paper! It looked like magic!

(Questions)

H: How did you make the folds?

Ve: Mommy do with me.

Ta: How mommy knows origami?

Ve: I don’t know.

T: Why do you need origami to make it?

Ve: Because I need paper.

Ty: Why you do the star?

Ve: So, it go upside. One more question!

M: How can you make origami?

Ve: With two hands!

Many thanks to Y and Ve for sharing your talent and skills with us! We learned a lot today!

QUESTION OF THE DAY (Do you have a job that you like?)

We continued reading the book, What Do Grown-Ups Do All Day? by Dawid Ryski and had an opportunity to familiarize ourselves with a few jobs.

(Carpenter/builder)

          Th: A builder!
Cl: Cut a tree, then put it somewhere.

(Carer)

          Re: Helping people.

Ve: Helping grandma and grandpa this.

          M: Helping grandma’s tire.

          A: He help him.

          Ty: Her back is ouchy.

Mi: I don’t know the name, but I think this is grandma.

O: Tada iro wo nutteiru dake!

Vieda: Perhaps, when I become a grandma, carer will take care of me.

T: We can help you, Vieda. We can help you do your Phonics class when you’re a grandma.

(Archaeologist)

Th: I know that job --- archaeologist. It’s a person who discovers the long, long time ago dinosaur’s bones. He is digging.

H: He discovers mummy, too. Mummy is like the game we did in Halloween. It’s everything white.

The time came for us to share our ideas about today’s question. We love sharing our thoughts and the reasons behind them. Here’s what we talked about:

          M: I don’t know my job yet.

Ke: I have the job I like, but I forgot it!

Mi: I used to choose being a vet because my dog die.

Se: Lawyer because I want to give advice.

          R: Vet and drawing.

T: You call that an artist.

E: Lawyer because I want to give advice.

Cl: Firefighter because it’s a job.

Ve: Doctor because I don’t know.

T: I want to golf because just like my dad.

H: I want to be a teacher because I love teachers.

A: Police officer because I love police officers.

Ta: I want to sew eco-bags. I want to be eco-bag maker.

          Yi: Doctor like my dad.

T: I want to be a scientist. The special one working at police. I actually like science police. Also, find people like the bad people DNA. They find clues.

We have been enjoying our time discovering many interesting jobs. We find it fascinating to check which jobs match the things what we are good at. Some of us have changed what we want to be when we grow up, as we get to explore more jobs. It would be great to have people (like our moms and dads, and grandparents!) visit us in Flowers to talk about the responsibilities that they have in their jobs. If you have time, please come, and visit us as we have our Jobs Week!

Have a wonderful Golden Week holiday! Take care and see you all on May 6th!

Love,

Flowers XOXO
