The Very Hungry Caterpillar!
Good morning everyone!
We started off our free play time by choosing which toy to play with. We already knew what we would like to play with as L pointed to the Legos. Sayaka asked us if we would like to play with cars. Y smiled and said, “No! Legos!” Sayaka put out the box we asked for and we started to play with Legos. On the tables, we had playdough and art activities with Nimo and Sayaka. With Nimo, we used watercolor and made the front page of our book. Sayaka showed us a big piece of green rectangle paper and we painted on it. We wanted to go to the park, so we started packing away our toys and had snacks.
Just before we went to the park, Sayaka mentioned the importance of fire and earthquake drills. Sayaka showed one of our favorite books. In the book, the tiger rescued the girl from a fire. Sayaka asked us, “Is it ok to stay inside if there’s fire?” E quickly responded, “Oh no! Fire no!” Sayaka pointed inside the book, “The girl was rescued! Nobody can stay inside if it’s fire.” After that, she talked to us about the earthquake evacuation drill and we practiced how to evacuate calmly. R was a bit confused if it was a real emergency or not. Our teacher emphasized that we are just practicing and it was not a real emergency.
The park was nice and very empty! We used all the areas in the park. Luckily, it wasn’t too hot to stay out! We love water play time, but coming park and running around is also our favorite thing to do. As always we made sure that we drank lots of water. On the way back to school, Mr. Sunshine came out and started getting very hot! Phew, it was just the perfect timing to come back.
After we came back, we got ready for water play. Then we started today’s circle time. It was the Hungry Caterpillar story. On Monday, Nimo read us “The Hungry Caterpillar” by Eric Carl. So, Sayaka did a different way to tell us the story which was an apron theater. As Sayaka acted out the story we made comments on what we saw:
E: Leaf!
I: Baby caterpillar.
S: Hungry! *Hungry caterpillar is still hungry.
Y: Food!
L: Pakuchi (coriander).
R: Strawberry.
R: Nashi? (Pear)
Y: Orange.
I: Plum.
E: Necter.
L: Candy.
E: Cupcake.
Y: No more cake.
I: Still hungry!
R: Ice cream.
E: Kyuri! (Cucumber)
R: Cheese.
Y: Stomach-ache.
L: Cocoon.
E: No more caterpillar!
After she finished the story, she asked us about our favorite foods.
I: Apple.
L: Chocolate, candy, and juice.
Y: Cake, candy, chocolate, ice cream, and cheese.
Y: Cake, juice, cupcake, and cheese.
E: Cake, Juice, cheese, and watermelon.
R” Banana, juice, candies, and cheese.
S: Candy, strawberry, and juice.
R: Green apple, and candy.
Taking about our favorite food made us hungry just like the hungry caterpillar. But, we didn’t want to miss out on our water play! After that, we went to the office and enjoyed splishing and splashing!
See you tomorrow for another wonderful day! Tomorrow is our last day of summer school!
Love,
Petals
