Summer School Week 5: Musical Talent

Wow it was so hot today! Just standing outside was enough to make us all start sweating! Our teachers decided that it was way too hot to go to the park today so they said we were going to have some water play upstairs! While we were busy with our morning free-play time, our teachers slowly get the pool ready and put all of our swimwear and towels in a basket. As excited as we were for the water play, we had a great time during our morning free play time! At one of the tables we had play dough and egg shakers. We used the play dough to experiment with the sound, we loved how everything we tried changed the sound! At another table, we had our puppet theater and some hand puppets set up for some dramatic play! On our craft table we made our little musicians! First we used the markers to add color to the plain popsicle sticks. Then we found our face and stuck it on the stick. We chose a pipe cleaner we wanted to use and we wrapped it on the popsicle stick as our arms! Then we chose an instrument for our musicians. After we chose which instrument we wanted, our teachers asked us how we should hold the instrument! Many of us knew how people play these instruments. On our play mat we had the toy cars and we enjoyed racing our friends!

We packed away our toys then washed our hands for snack time! Once we finished eating our snack, we went to the library and got a book to read while we waited for all of our friends to finish. Then we gathered together for circle time! We first did some body movements like shaking our hips, standing on our heels, hopping on our toes, etc. Then we sat down for some music time! This week’s theme for our Summer School is, “Musical Talent”! Today, Nimo asked us what songs we would like to sing. We sang, ABC, Wheels On The Bus, Good Morning, Baby Shark, Let It Go, Head Shoulders Knees and Toes, How Are You, and Dem Bones. So much singing and dancing! It already seems that well have a knack for music! After we enjoyed our music time, we read a book, “Olivia” by Ian Falconer. The book was about a cute little pig named Olivia and she loves trying all kinds of things, and she’s very confident she does them well! Sounds just like us! We enjoyed the story a alot!

Before we got ready for the pool Nimo showed us a picture of a trumpet, piano, guitar and a trumpet and asked us if we knew any of these instruments.

Guitar

L: That one, play like this! (Showed the class how to hold it)

T: (Showed the class how to strum the guitar)

Trumpet

E: (Put the trumpet on his mouth showing how people play it)

Y: I have that one at home!

Drum

I: I have! It’s empty!

L: You do like this (pretended to bang the drums)

Piano

Y: That is a piano, I don’t have at home

K: I have at home! You play it like this (pretended to play the piano)

After our circle time, we all got changed into our swimwear and headed up stairs to the pool! Out on the balcony was a great big pool and we loved splashing in the cool water! After our pool time, our teachers helped us get dried up and we changed back into our normal clothes, then got ready for lunch!

Thank you all for a wonderful start to a new week!
Hope everyone gets some good rest and we will see you all again tomorrow!

Love,

Petals
