Is the Racecar Fast?

Happy Monday! We’re happy to be back at Ohana after spending the weekend with our families, and we’re excited to start a new week. This week, there are only four days of school, since don’t have school on Friday, the 10th.

CIRCLE TIME

To begin our circle time, we reviewed what happened last time we were at school, on Friday. But what did happen last Friday?

Hi: No Ohana.
Re: Be Happy Birthday!
Ky: We went shopping and treasure hunt.
Re: Cameron’s Birthday.
Ky: all family live in Japan.

Those are all things that we have either discussed or celebrated within the last couple of weeks, but we didn’t do any of those things on Friday. With a few hints, we were able to remember…

Ky: Setsubun.
Hi: Sa and Ke mom
Ky: Sa and Mi.

On Friday, Hi’s and Ke’s moms came to our class to teach us about Setsubun, and we were visited by an Oni! We have some pretty good ideas about who the Oni was, but we’re not 100% sure yet. Ky wants today’s homework to be, “figure out who the Oni was.”

An Oni visited Ohana of Friday morning, did an Oni visit any of our homes too?

Ke: Yes! Beans, Oni throw it. Oni pick up beans and throw it.

Ky: Me the Oni, I scare Ri, Ri bumped to Ke and Ri bumped to table and she cry.

Re: Oni don’t come my house because my baby gonna eat the “mame”, because baby is zero. I eat beans, Oni don’t come inside.
Ky: baby gonna cry because scared Oni.

Ar: I went to “jinja.” I catch mochi, beans, and peanuts!

Sh: I don’t see it because I’m biggest! Oni don’t come to my house.

It seems like the Oni did visit some of us for a second time later that evening. Some of us saw the same Oni that visited us at Ohana, and some of us said that the Oni at home was a different one.

QUESTION OF THE DAY

When we arrived at Flowers class today, we noticed something was a little different. There was no question of the day! There is always a question waiting to be answered when we get to school each morning, except today. The teachers asked for one of us to help create the question of the day. Ky came up with the topic…

Is the racecar fast?

So many friends answered “yes!” But someone did say “no”, why?

Re: Because I don’t have racecar. I don’t buy this car.

Let’s have a discussion about racecars…

Ri: I have racecar. Like McQueen. It’s just toy.

Sh: I can make super fast racecar from Lego. I have a lot, like 12 Legos!
Hi: I have blocks, like big and small, lots. But I cannot make racecar. Mommy don’t know and I don’t know too!
Ky: I can do Lego because I’m six years old. I can look the Lego box, like number, and find six.

Ka: My daddy will get racecar for me. I played with red remote control and dinosaur at science center.

Da: I have a racecar at school!
Da went to get his racecar from his bag so that he could show us. He brought back a motorcycle and showed us how fast it could go. It wasn’t a racecar, but it was super fast!

How does a racecar go fast?

Ka: Because it became faster! You can do race. You do ready, steady, go!

Ky: It have engine.
Hi: Racecar is fast because engine is fast.

Do only racecars have engines?

Ky: Lot’s of cars have engine, like bicycle, trucks.
Ka: Truck and bicycle can’t go fast.
Ar: Shinkansen is fast.
Sh: Shinkansen is super fast and McQueen is fast!

How does an engine help a car go fast?

Be: Racecar is fast because it have engine really fast in a circle. The engine go really fast. You have to put air and moisture inside the engine and it makes it go fast.

Da: Then the wheels go very fast.

Ky: Have machine, engine inside, make go faster. Some car are fast some car are not fast.

Why are some cars fast while others are not as fast?

Iz: Because we can race.

Ka: Sometimes you might be late, and the shops are open really early. So you can go fast car and not be late.

It was fun to have a discussion based on the question that we decided ourselves! It even fit in with out transportation theme! Although we enjoyed coming up with our own question of the day, we actually like it better when our teachers give us the questions. Who knows? Maybe we’ll get another opportunity to do that again in the future.

Have a wonderful evening! See you tomorrow!

Love,
Flowers XOXO
