Transportation and Library Visit
We are very happy to welcome a new friend today. Her name is A. We would like to welcome her family, A and Ky, too! Circle time was a lovely time to get to know her better. Thank you so much for answering our questions cheerfullyđ
Be: Where are you from?
A: Iâm from America. In Boston. Itâs a big place with a lot of places to go.
Vieda: Whereâs the best place to go in Boston?
A: New York and Brooklyn!
Au: Do you like candies?
Ai: No!
Aus: What is your favorite food?
A: My favorite food is spaghetti!
Sh: Do you go to the park?
A: Not that much because my mom and dad have too much work. But I get to play with my babysitters, which is the best.
K: What color do you like?
A: Blue
Re: Do you like spaghetti, strawberries, and candies?
A: I donât like candy, but I like strawberries and spaghetti.
Hi: Do you like flowers?
A: Yes!
Hi: Do you like sakura?
A: Yes, thatâs actually cherry blossoms.
We are happy to hear that we like the things that A likes. We would love A to show us where Boston is on our map, and share more things about her city soon.
LIBRARY VISIT
A checked the weather for us in the morning and said, âItâs a bit raining. Oh no, I think itâs drizzlingâ. When we heard her, we all agreed that there would be no park time today. After library time, we were surprised to see a sunny sky! We put on our smocks and jackets and joined the circle. Excitement was in the air when we learned that we were going to Azabu library. Yay, we love Azabu libraryđ Since we have been talking about transportation, we had an exciting time seeing lots of cars, trucks, and taxis!
At the library, we enjoyed reading books that are of different sizes and kinds. There are books that are made of cloth and inside are things that we can attach and take off because they have Velcro tapes on them. There are books that are big and tall. Some of our friends showed us how to read the ones that are written in Japanese. As always, the best part of our library visit is when we choose one book that we can borrow and enjoy in Flowers for one month!
PAPER THEATER STORY TIME (Kamishibai)
When Vieda placed the paper theater wooden board, we knew todayâs story time would be extra special. Ky said, âWe have lots of kamishibai at home, but we donât have that one!â. Sh added, âOh I really love that special story. What do you call that board and story? I want to buy for me at oneâ.
The story is a popular Japanese that talks about an old man who dropped his lunch of rice balls and fried chicken in a hole. He was surprised to hear singing voices each time he dropped something. So, he decided to go down the hole himself. To his surprise, the hole was a home to a group of mice who were celebrating Food Olympics. The old man excitedly joined the celebration. We had a very interesting chat as we listened to the different countries that the mice were from.
We had lots of fun trying to guess which country certain foods came from. Hereâs how our discussion went:
A: Curry is from Nepal or India. These two countries are very close to each other. And Iâm American. Did you know that George Washington fought with the French. He became the first President of the United States of America.
Ky: Now itâs Biden. In Japan, the president is Kishida Souri.
Be: My mom sometimes work with Kishida Souri.
Ky: Kishida Souri come to my momâs shop before.
Hi shared about a person called Messi. When asked who this person was, she said, âHe is a very good soccer player. Messi is smaller people but he is a winner in soccerâ. Ke added with a smile, âI also play soccer and kick the ball. Y play soccer, too!â.
The story ended with the old man saying goodbye to the mice because his wife was waiting for him. When we heard the word wife, we asked, âWhat does wife mean?â. Some of us thought it was a mom, a sister, or maybe a grandma until A said, âWife is a woman who gets married. If you have children, they can call you âmommyâ. If you donât have children, you are called a wifeâ. Thatâs perfect! We remember that we talked about what it means to get married to someone last week.
QUESTION OF THE DAY (Do you like cars in Japan?)
We saw lots of cars today on our way to the library. Letâs see what our friends think about Japanese cars:
We like cars in Japan because:
K: The taxis are black.
Ky: Car is is so cool. The color is cool.
Sh: I love to see cars going on the road.
Ke: In England, the cars are big.
Ka They are fast!
Hi: So cute!
B: They go fast and can take us to so many far places.
We donât like cars because:
B: Only outside.
A: Itâs black.
A: They bump people.
R: They have rocks and thereâs no space and I bump into them.
R: Itâs so cute.
H: I already have a bicycle.
Speaking about transportation, our morning table activity was painting our favorite means of transportation. We enjoyed painting cars, airplanes, jets, bicycles, and some that we created! We will send you photos of our painting soon!
We hope your Tuesday was as terrific as oursđ See you tomorrow!
Love,
Flowers XOXO
