From Head To Toe

Welcome back to school friends, hope everyone had a lovely weekend! C was excited to tell her friends and teachers about her awesome weekend adventure! C couldn’t wait for his friends to come over for a play date! On one of our tables, we had a giant piece of paper and paint! L told us what colors we had, “Blue, yellow, red!”. We had different kinds of brushes and rollers to spread the paint out. K noticed something, “Oh! Blue and Red, Purple!”. J loved mixing the three colors together. He told his friends, “Look! Brown!”. He added more colors and watched them change colors. R shared, “My favorite color is blue and green!”, G joined the conversation, “My favorite color is yellow!”. S experimented with the different brushes and how they spread the paint. On the other table a few of us sat down with Sayaka to continue our Otsukimi art. On the play area we had Stickle Bricks to play with. E got a handful of straight bricks and said, “I have to make my name, E!”. He used the blocks to make the letters. T used the big stickle bricks and started to build a huge tower!

We packed away our toys, had snack, then gathered for circle time. Nimo showed us a car toy we had that looked broken.

K: Broken…

T: There are two pieces missing.

K: Sad…

We talked about how Petal’s toys are everyone’s and so we all have to be gentle and take care of our toys. Our teachers noticed that when we pack away the toys we either throw them into the box, or drop them from high above. The loud bang it makes when we drop can break our toys. We practiced gently setting the toys inside the box without making such big noises.

G: Use gentle hands.

Today we headed out to the temple area because we didn’t have enough time to go to Step Park. We had a great time hiding in the bush and running around the tree with our friends! When we got back to school we gathered out at the balcony rather than the usual area. Nimo put down his mask and asked us to put ours down as well. Masks are great for keeping us covid-free, however not being able to see how our teacher’s mouths move when speaking makes it a little harder for us to copy the sounds. If we are all outside, we can keep our masks off and have some time practicing the sounds of words. Today we read, “From Head to Toe” by Eric Carle. The book had lots of animals and the animals did an action with one of their body parts. We also tried coping the actions. Nimo asked us if we knew the names of the animals.

E: That is a giraffe!

K: Buffalo!
G: It’s a monkey.

Nimo: Wave your hands like a monkey! Can you do it?

L: I can do it!

T: Gorilla!

C: Camel.

J: I don’t know the name.
Nimo: Donkey!

J: Donkey.

S: Elephant.

P: Bird!

T: I think that’s a parrot.

We did lots of fun actions and sang, “I can do it!”. We looked at some of the body parts we used.

L: Hands.

K: Head!

Nimo pointed at his foot and asked us what body part it was.

G: Shoe.

Nimo took off his shoe and asked us again.

C: A Foot!

We all took off our shoes and looked at the other parts of our foot.

T: Ankle!

C: I have an ankle.

C: I have two ankles.

T: Mine is a big ankle!

Nimo: This part is called the Heel.

Petals: Heel!

We put our masks back on and went inside the classroom to do some dancing. We walked around on our toes and stretched our bodies long like a giraffe. We also tried waddling like a penguin on our heels! We even tried walking on the sides of our feet!

We played a little letter sound game and we all got ready for lunch.

Have a lovely day and see you again tomorrow!

Love,

Petals
