Happy World Book Day!

Fresh from our Earth Day celebration, this week welcomed us with another-

“It’s Book Day!” L said during circle time. Yes, today is World Book Day! That’s why a lot of us came in our costumes-

“It’s Halloween!” Kai said, to which we responded in a chorus of “Nooooooo”.

To celebrate Book Day, we brought our favorite books and dressed up in our favorite characters from the story. When we arrived, we saw our teachers dressed up! There was something colorful on Sayaka’s back, Kai was wearing something stripey, and it seemed like there was a giant cloud on top of Pauline’s head. What story were their costumes from?

During circle time, the teachers asked if they knew what our costumes were.

“Sayaka is a–”

“Turtle!” We said. Yes- 1 point!

“Pauline is a–”

“Jelly!” S said.

“Jellyfish!” C said. Two points for us!

“And Kai is–?”

“Garbage!” C said.

“I’m a plastic bag- I’m Stanley!” Kai said. Aha! So our three teachers all came from the book “Somebody Swallowed Stanley” by Sarah Roberts.

“How about you? Who are you today?” Pauline asked us.

“Monkey. Curious George,” M said.

“Firefighter. Nee Naw,” K said.

“Jelly- I have the plate!” L told us, and she took it from her bag and showed it to us.

“I’m Pinkalicious,” R said.

“Fancy Nancy,” C said,

“I’m Superman,” O said.

“A bee!” S said.

“A witch!” S said.

Our teachers said that we will keep our books in school so that we can do our show and tell about them! Yay!

Our first show and tell for this week was K. He was dressed as a firefighter and he shared with us his favorite book “Nee Naw the Little Fire Engine” by Deano Yipadee.

“What’s the name of your book?” Pauline asked.

“Nee Naw,” K said.

“Who’s Nee Naw?”

“He’s a fire truck,” K answered.

“What happened in the book?” Pauline asked him, and she helped him turn the pages.

“There’s a fire. The big fire is too big. The firetruck is big. It’s a ladder. It’s a fire hose,” K said as Pauline pointed out to the pages she was turning.

“Nee Naw, Nee Naw. I’m a little fire engine. Nee Naw, Nee Naw, I’m happy I’m me,” K sang.

“What’s happening here?” Pauline asked as she turned to the next page.

“Grandma is ‘Waaah!’ because there’s a fire in grandma’s house. Broken. The tire. Number 1 is broken. Number 2 is not broken. They go to grandma’s house. The firefighter go up. Put out the fire. The water goes this way and this way. The tire is broken. They’re fixing.” After that, Kai played the special Nee Naw song, and K sang along to it. It was a fun, upbeat song!

“Do you have questions? Or comments?” Pauline asked.

“I like firefighters’ truck,” H said.

“I like the firetruck,” L said.

“I like Hiori and Lea the same,” R said.

“I like the firefighters,” R said.

“I like the firefighters’ truck,” C said.

“I like the firefighters,” A said.

That concluded our show and tell- good job, K!

We went to the temple afterwards and we had our World Book Day parade! Check out the video that our teachers took of us.

We hope you all had a fun day, just as we did!

Love,
