A Special Day of Celebration

Happy Friday!

We sang the Months of the Year and was a bit overjoyed when we realized that we are on the last month of the year! December sounds such as an exciting month for all of us. Some shared that December means family time because it is the time for winter break when we get to spend time with our family. Some celebrate special days in December as well. Today, we talked about one of those special days called Hanukkah in circle time.

Question of the Day (Do you know what Hanukkah is?)

Big thanks to Sh for volunteering to ready today’s question of the day. Bravo to R, Re. An, and C who counted and read out the names on the Yes and No columns. An immediately replied that 8 is more than 5, which meant that there were more friends on the Yes column than on No. Our favorite part of the question of the way is when we share our ideas with our friends.

Ky: Hanukkah is you gonna do kippa and candle.

            Re: Candles.

Au: Hanukkah is when the Shamash touch your head and then it lights the candles.

C: When we eat candy and chocolate.

Sh: Hanukkah is a special day. With no lights on the Hanukkah, there’s no happy Hanukkah.

Ky: But Japan don’t do Hanukkah. Do you do Hanukkah in Brazil?

            D: Yes!

We were wondering which countries do Hanukkah. We listened carefully to our friends and teachers and were surprised to hear that most of the countries they are from, do not celebrate Hanukkah.

Earlier this morning, Ky said, “Oh, today’s question of the day… Sh when know it, will be very happy and excited and very very happy, I think!”. And he was right! Sh said in a big smile, “I know, I know Hanukkah! I do Hanukkah!”.  In our circle time discussion, we thought perhaps the country where Sh is from celebrates Hanukkah.

            Da: Where are you from?

            Sh: I’m Jewish. I’m a special boy.

D Sh s special because he has kippa and this one (pointed to his tsittza).

As special as Hanukkah, everyone can be special, too. What makes us special?

Ky shared, “When giving friends special presents, we are special”. Au replied, “You are special if you love your friend, and you are loved”. How beautiful and powerful of being special we all are!

In the beginning of the term, we enjoyed looking at what we can do and who we are, which led to the things that we are alike and different. It was a good time to look back to as spent days watching and celebrating what each other do because we are special.

We are looking forward to hearing more about Hanukkah. For now, we think Hanukkah is a special day when we light candles. We lit up one candle today in Flowers and are looking forward to seeing more candles lit up next week.

 MORNING ACTIVITIES

We enjoyed playing with colorful blocks and dinosaurs. On a table, we made a special card for Ti. Hi commented, “This no birthday card for Ti.” Ka asked, “So why are we making a card for Ti if it’s not his birthday yet?”. Vieda answered, “Because he will be going to a big school in another country very soon”. When Hi heard it, she said, “Oh! Bye bye?”. We wanted to make Ti feel how much special he has been to us through a special card. Ky suggested, “We should make this a secret from Ti. Like surprise, so don’t say to Ti about his card!”. What a brilliant idea!

WINTER PARTY and KOGAI PARK

As always, we had fun while rehearsing our songs and dance. We had an idea how we looked like when we sing when we watched our recorded video. We can’t wait to see our moms and dads at our winter party on Tuesday!

We went to Kogai Park for park time. We had so much fun playing on the zip line, big slide, and the jungle gym. We had fun running around the park, too!

    Have a great weekend!

 Love,

Flowers
