Can Your Body Stop Working?

Happy Monday!
It’s the beginning of a wonderful week in Flowers Class!

MORNING ACTIVITIES

This morning we worked on a variety of different projects. Things we worked on included, writing a thank you letter to Takanawa Post Office, making Christmas cards to exchange with another school in Japan, and other holiday related crafts.

It rained last night and this morning, and because of that, we didn’t go to the park today. Instead, we decided to stay at Ohana and play some games inside.

BROKEN TELEPHONE

The first game we played was Broken Telephone. We formed a line and whispered a word in the ear of the person sitting next to us. We repeated whispering the word into each other’s ear’s until we got to the end of the line. At which point, the last person told us the word that they heard.

It was really funny to see how the word changed from person to person. For example, one round started with the word “banana” and ended up being “panini”. Another time started with “Orange Juice” and after going through everyone’s ear’s turned into “pasta.”

We wondered how that could happen!? After each round we traced the word back to see where and how it changed. One time the word changed five different times before the final result!

MUSICAL CHAIRS

The next game we played was musical chairs. We used the chairs that have all our names on them, and at first, we only wanted to sit in the chair with our name. Once we realized that we could choose any chair, regardless of whose name was on it, the game really picked up!

We played two times, both of which were quite competitive. The last standing (or sitting) of each round was K and H. Great job!

CIRCLE TIME

Today’s circle time started by talking about last week’s parent teacher conferences. Our teachers told us that they talked to our moms and dads on ZOOM. Some of us even remembered seeing our teachers on the iPad.

H: I see Cameron and Vieda and Liezel at my home in iPad, you’re there!

OUR WEEKEND

Being an extra long weekend for some of us, we had a lot of time to do fun things while not at Ohana…

B: Mommy and Daddy played at the park. My friend didn’t come until nighttime.

T: I was only go to school, it was special. The teachers changed the place. The place to take off your shoes was different. There was more space.

K: I went to ballet. My mommy go too and after mommy went to eat to restaurant with friends. I stayed at home with Daddy.

A: I go Yoyogi Koen Park. I borrow bicycle and ride.

H: I went Ninja Park. I played with mommy. It’s in Odaiba. I went to park with Daddy and Mommy. So so big park!

A: I played with my Barbie toys. I have two Barbies. They have golden hair. Both the same color hair. I played with my baby, but my baby didn’t want to play with me. Then my mommy said, “time to eat”.

H: I am ready for Santa Claus. I put sticker on Christmas tree inside the door and everyone can go in my home. Santa can go in my home.
T: Isn’t it too fast for Santa Claus?

B: I had fun at home, I played with blocks. I built tree house. Tiny.
H: B and H played at the park.
B: Yes, Arisugawa Park.
H: No! Not Arisugawa.
A: B, do you go to Robot Park?
B: No.
A: I went down the slide and my had is electric! When I touch mommy’s hand and then it’s electric! The slides are made of electric!

QUESTION OF THE DAY (Can your body stop working?)

Today’s question continued the conversation sparked by C’s question at the end of circle time last Tuesday.

A few of us said no…

A: My body is still working. I’m eating so much healthy food and my stomach likes it. That why it still working and when I sleep it still working.
T: I’m still alive and I’m still a kid. My body wouldn’t stop fast.
S: My body is still work.

Those of us who said yes…

H: Everyday it’s stopping.
H: Everyday its stop, you’ll die.
H: Sometimes it’s not working. Yesterday it’s not working, but I’m not die. I sleep, it’s still working.

Today’s question was quite hard to answer. Many of us thought, “maybe” and didn’t feel strong enough one way or the other, but gave us many things the think about, nonetheless.

K: In my grandma’s house I saw people of the television had accident and blood. I saw someone’s heart stop working. The blood was outside, not inside. People brought the flowers like this (in her hands) when someone die. Some people cry. Many people came like thousand.
B: Because they like the person.

T: I went to the doctor before and there was a person. Their eyes were white, not black. The person couldn’t see, there was blood coming out. But the doctor made him see again.

Our discussion turned into what happens after you die…

K: It’s sad…

T: What/why was God nice and then some people kill him?
B: He’s in heaven, not here. He had to die for our sins.
T: I think he was too nice, and some people don’t like him.

The conversation took one last turn before we ended for lunch…

B: I think builders need to build houses for humans.
T: Even people don’t have money or houses and live somewhere like on the street, in cardboard, next to the wall, or in a tunnel. But I don’t want to be a builder.
B: Then you can just tell the builders.
T: Who’s going to pay for the house? They have to work for the money. If they work, they will have a lot of money, then they will have a house.

Our topic of discussion today was quite difficult comprehend. It might even be hard for grown-ups to think about. But we all thought about it deeply and our answers were serious. We’re glad that we can have mature conversations even though were just kids. We will continue this topic again another time.
We hope you all have a nice evening! See you tomorrow!
