Preparing for the New Year
In the morning, we played with all sorts of different activities. We took the dentist kit out, played with stamps, ice cream manipulatives and fruit counters. We like holding the ice cream while we talk to our friends and play in the candy house. While we were playing Kai prepared some paper on the ground with some paint and materials. We only had red paint and the materials were all red and yellow. Some of our friends went over to help him paint and stick. We wondered what it could be. We’re sure Kai will tell us soon. We played for a while longer while the teachers prepared for the day. Then it was time to clean up. We were missing number 6 on the ice cream cone so we looked all over the room for it. Finally, we found it under the shelf!
After cleaning up we gathered in a circle to start our circle time. We usually do lots of actions to warm up for the day but today we just wanted to jump and then sit down. Kai showed us a picture of us painting and sticking in the morning and asked us what we were doing and what color was it? We told him we painted red and we stuck red and yellow pieces on the painting. He explained to us the reason we painted it red was that red is a special lucky color for Chinese new year. Tomorrow is Chinese new year and we’ll decorate our candy house. So today we need to pick what we want to decorate for the start of international month and Chinese new year. On the board were some lucky saying that we can put on our house. Our options were:
“Good year, good condition, and fortune: More wealth, more happiness , more lucky”
Happy/ Luck = 福
Spring = 春
Prosperity = 祿
We voted to see which one we wanted to write on our house. It was pretty unanimous that we wanted happy/ luck. So tomorrow we will add that during free play time and learn about Chinese new year. As we want to be lucky Kai asked us if we can wear red tomorrow since it is the lucky color.
We didn’t have too much time today to play in the park so we decided to go to Step Park instead. It was great cause we were able to play with Flowers and Buds class! We ran around chasing each other, kicked the ball around and tugged on the rope with Flowers class. Nimo was also a big hit because he likes to run around so we chased him a lot! That’s it for today! We’re excited to start international month tomorrow! Hope you’ve also had a great day!
XOXO,
