C is for "Celebrating Dads" and "Catching Up"

HAPPY NEW YEAR! Happy first day back in school, too, after a looooooong vacation!

When we arrived at school, we noticed that our candy house had transformed into something new again. It had pictures of food and the teachers said it has a sign that read, “Petals Class Diner”. Oh, that’s right! We remembered that today is the day when we celebrate our daddies- by having a diner and serving them breakfast!

Before our long vacation started, we discussed with Kai what we wanted on the menu. We decided on coffee, tea, cookies, and senbei, and we saw these laid out in trays and boxes inside our diner. When our daddy dropped us off, we asked what they wanted to have for breakfast, then filled to- go bags with their order. Kai took a picture of us with daddy with a Polaroid camera, and it was a nice little souvenir of our Dad’s celebration. We hope next year we can celebrate together in school, face- to- face!

We did our morning jobs once we got upstairs. We played with colored wooden blocks and toy cars. After that, we were interested in drawing, so we requested to draw, and the teachers took out some sheets of scrap paper, and different kinds of colorful markers. Kai and Shelly then came upstairs and brought back our diner. We cheered as we were excited to play with our house- er, we mean- our diner, once again!

After some time, Pauline asked us to pack away and she was quite excited to have circle time because we didn’t have it for such a long time!

We sang our “Good Morning” song and “How are You Today?” Then we greeted each other “Happy New Year!” and “Akemashite Omedetou Gozaimasu!” It was also a perfect time for us to catch up on what we did during the long break.

“I went to park. Robot park,” K said. “Mama and papa and K and M go play!” he added.

“Did you get any presents on Christmas day?” Pauline asked. K nodded his head yes excitedly.

“Open presents papa and mama and K and M. Mommy party; papa give Mario game.” Kenzo said. Pauline shared that she has a Nintendo switch at home and she has a Luigi game.

“I go to picnic L and L’s daddy and mommy. Park and picnic and juice. Hiroshima and H has bicycle and T has bicycle, too,” Hiori shared.

“H’s mommy and H’s daddy and H’s sister Hiroshima go picnic,” L said. She also added that she ate senbei.

“I go Wakayama. Yes! Kanazawa snowflakes. I have snow purple boots,” R said.

“I went to the park. Special park,” M shared.

“What did you do at the park?” Pauline asked.

“Flowers!” M said. He also said that they ate hotdogs at the park and that he got trains for Christmas.

“I go to the toy shop,” A said.

“Wow! What did you get?” Pauline asked.

“Elsa. Elsa bag. A small one,” A replied.

“Robot park with my daddy. I have picnic,” S said.

“Chocolate cake!” B said when the teachers asked what he got for Christmas. “Not toy,” he said.

“I went to picnic with M Robot park,” K said.

“Supermarket. Kouen itta,” Kenta said when the teachers asked him where he went during the break.

After that, we had our snacks, and had our first park time of the year. Yay! We brought balls to the park, and we were happy that we had the green area to ourselves. We missed playing together! Some of our friends were pretty funny and asked the teachers if they can stuff the ball under their smocks. It looked like they swallowed a whole watermelon!

We went back to school afterwards and had lunch. That concludes that first day of school for the year 2022!

How about you? How was your day?

Love,

All the happy children in Petals Class
