Our busy craft day in Flowers
Whew! What a busy day we had today full of arts and crafts! We started our morning with Shelley, and she talked about cubism again and prepared a lot of pictures of our friends faces from all six angles. We took a careful look at the pictures and saw how the parts of our faces look very different depending on which side we look at them.
Shelley: What is this, that Picasso used in his artwork?
K: Cubism
Shelley: Can you see how the face in this picture looks different?
A: Yes! That one is up and that one is down.
Shelley: I was listening to people talk about art earlier today and they talked about balance and values.
C: What is values?
Shelley: Values is how you use your shapes and colors and how the whole picture looks. Now, let’s take a look at some of Picasso’s art, see how he used the parts of the face?
K: It looks scary…
Shelley: What part of the face do you think this is?
Y: Eyes!
Shelley: What is right above the eye?
K: This! (points at his eyelashes)
V: Eyelashes!
After carefully examining Picasso’s style of Cubism, we worked together with Shelley four at a time and used our pencils to draw a part of a face. We decided to use pencil because the background of our canvas already colorful.
While we waited for our turn to draw parts of the face with Shelley, we worked together with Liezel to finish up our CD arts. Some of us went and worked on our milk carton couch with Vieda. A, K, Ki, and Ke had a very important conversation before they worked on the couch.
A: We need a Shachou (CEO) so we will know what to do…
Ke: I don’t want to be the Shachou… I want to be the builder. I will build the couch.
K: I want to do that too! I am the builder.
Ki: …Ok… I will be the Shachou!
Vieda: What does the Shachou do?
A: Shacho do lots of benkyou (Studying). Shacho write lots of things like this (pretends to write things on paper), then Shachou show people what to do.
Ki: Ok, I will do that.
A: Do like your Daddy do.
Ki: (Stands infront of the couch) Ah…Oh… Okay, let’s see…. (fixes his hair and starts putting newspaper in the cartons)
A: Ok Shachou teach us, now we build.
K: Newspaper is not enough, we need more.
Ki: I have lots at home, I can bring!
Ke: I have newspaper from two years ago, I can bring lots of it tomorrow!
To be continued…
After our morning crafts we quickly got ready for the park and marched on out. Thanks to the sun being out, it wasn’t so cold, we had tons of fun playing with our friends. All of a sudden we heard Nimo shout, “Earthquake!” We all ran to a safe spot at park and did dangomushi” We never know when the Earthquake will come so it’s good we practice our dangomushi sometimes. We stayed at the park for about 45 minutes, and when it was time to go, our friends all said, “What?! Already?! So short!”
We still had lots of work that needed to be finished. We are slowly working on the artwork for our museum and we also have our Movie night project. Our teachers really want to make the movie night happened while we are still very excited about the idea. So today, we split up into our groups and finished up our costumes for our movie. Each and everyone of our friends were very unique and created their own version of the characters. Everyone was so into making their costumes we had a very late lunch. We had a few minutes after lunch so Nimo raffled off the last balloon. Our lucky friend for today was Ke with the magical number 77! Congratulations. Our friends new that this isn’t the first nor the last so they said they are looking forward to the time!
Hope everyone had a wonderful day! Have a lovely evening and we will see you all again tomorrow!
Love,
Flowers
