Good morning! It’s the 3rd day of our winter school. For free play, we had the polar bear on ice game on the table. We placed the polar bear on the ice and knocked down the ice with a plastic hammer until the bear fell down. The other table was an art craft table. We used the tissue paper that we used yesterday as snow. We used the glue to stick it onto the paper. Then we put a silver colored snowman onto it. On the small table, Pauline was wrapping our clay craft from yesterday. We are so excited about taking it home. S had a nice time chatting with Pauline. “I like my face.” He pointed out his photo on the floor. Then he said, “I like this.” He pointed to the toy he had. He told Pauline that he loves so many other things in Petals. “That’s so nice, S! I’m so happy you like everything!” He nodded his head and said, “Yeeees!”

We had our snack time before circle time. We asked our teachers if we could go to “Our temple”. Sayaka wasn’t sure if we would have enough time. Even though we don’t have time, we can go for a walk. So, we prepared to go outside. Today’s circle time was about telling my art craft story. Sayaka introduced the book, “The Snowman ゆきだるま” by Raymond Briggs. Sayaka showed us a few pages and we realized that there were only pictures. Sayaka pointed out the pages, and said, “This is a very special book because it’s no words. Only pictures.” It was a wordless book with beautiful illustrations. “There are no words to read but we can still ‘Read’ this book with your imagination.” Sayaka said to us. We went through all the pages. The ending made us feel a bit sad. The boy in the book looked for the snowman in the morning but the snowman was gone. Sayaka pointed out the picture and asked about our ideas. “Look, what happened to them?” L said, “Rainy- that’s why he fell down.” R said, “Falling.” S also said, “Falling down.”

This book gave an idea to our teachers that we could make our own story. Sayaka suggested using today’s art craft- “The Snowman”, to make our story and talk about it. H volunteered to share her own story first.

H: This is snowman’s dancing. He is in the snow. It’s not a snowman. It’s a snowgirl. The end.

R: Snowman jumping. He say, “I’m a snowman.” The end!

L: He is being silly and jumping. The end.

L: Snowman is jumping and looking at the sky. Owari!

R: Snowman say, “I like jumping.”

S: He’s jumping. This monster in the snow. Snowman no like monster. The end.

A: He’s happy. It’s a girl snowman.

K: Snowman is talking. Happy. The end.

“That’s a nice story!” Pauline and Sayaka are proud of our story telling time. We hope that it will snow and make a snowman!

After we finished today’s circle time, we checked the time and it was 11:20! We didn’t have enough time to go to the temple so we went for a walk. We had a wonderful 3rd day of winter school. Tomorrow is our last day! See you all tomorrow and have a nice evening!

Love,

All the snow lovers in Petals Class
