Winter is Here!

Winter is here! We could feel the winter breeze in the morning. Some of our friends said, “I can’t take off my jacket! I’m so cold!”. Just in time to get familiar with an acrostic poem about winter. We learned that an acrostic poem is something where we use the first letter of a word for each line in the poem. Sounds interesting! Since we have been talking about snowflakes and winter, it was great to learn a poem about winter. We read it together and immediately Ky said in a song, here-cheer. These words rhyme. Rhyme along with me!”. The words at the end of the line in the poem indeed rhyme – here-cheer, icy-nicely, and snow-go. We love rhymes and poems! In just a few tries, we could recite it confidently. Vieda said, “What if some of the words be replaced by boxes?”. We tried and we did it! Ch excitedly said, “That’s easy-peasy!”. Way to go, Flowers!

A very big thanks to Christopher for reading today’s question of the day (Do you know what bears do in winter?). Everyone had their names placed on the NO column. We said no because we were not quite sure what the answers were but would love to share our ideas.  Here they are:

Ky: Bear running, sleeping, and eating.

            Ch: Sleeping and eating fish.

Be: Eat water and eat fish.

K: They eat sea lions. Drink water, and swim underground. They scratch the sea lions’ back so it can’t move.

Ch: First the bears squash it (sea lions) and eat fish.

            K: Sleeping and recycle.

Ch: How do they do that?

            K: Eat – sleep – eat – sleep.

Ch: Life cycle, like a wheel.

Z: Bears eat lots of healthy fruits like kiwi, tomatoes, strawberry, cucumbers, and fish. Their favorite is fish!
K: And they also eat salmon, fish, and meat.

Ch: Bears also walk in the grass.

            K: And sleep.

Great ideas! Tomorrow, we will find out what bears do during wintertime. Then, we enjoyed looking at a magazine that talked about some bear facts. When we heard the word, “cubs”, Z said, “That means baby bears!”. Ky was quite surprised to know that a bear he knows is called a sun bear. He mentioned that “I have it but don’t know it sun bear the name!”. We were in awe when we heard that polar bear has a black skin.

Be: But I can’t see the black skin.

K: Maybe when you cut the white, you can see the black.

Be: I have a real panda at home. It’s bigger than Ohana!
K: Is it bigger that the Empire State Building?

            Be: Yes!
Ky: Is it taller than John John?

            Be: Yes!
K: Is it bigger than Dubai Tower?

Ch: Is it bigger than space?

Be: It’s a girl. I can bring her to school.

Vieda: Would it fit in our car or bicycle?
Be: Maybe we can put it on top of the car roof.

K: If it’s on top, the police will come, and everyone will stare at you.

We would be very excited to meet Beatrice’s “real panda bear” soon!

Ky: Chiba house, a lot of jungle. Oniwa, we have it at house. And we play oniwa is jungle tat bear come. Me and Ke touch but to go poo. The animals are real, honmono.

K: I have been to a bear park and a real monkey park.

Ky: Can I “kensaku” with iPad blubber?

We can’t wait to hear what the bear does during wintertime.

We were busy as bees as we continued to prepare for the winter holidays. In the morning, we played with blocks and worked on our snowflake’s cutouts and letters for Santa. We were so eager to draw a picture of what we would like to request from Santa and wrote a special message, too. We were so excited to know how and when he would be able to get our letters. But it seems like our teachers don’t know either. Please come soon!

After lunch, K, Ky, Ch, and Be put on some decors for our snowmen. You would be surprised the next time you see our snowmen😊

With our snowmen, snowflakes, and snowy winter cards in the room, we could really feel that winter is indeed here!

Love,

Flowers XOXO
