What do animals eat and Yearbook Photo Day!
Yearbook Photo Day morning
What a fabulous day! The weather was so lovely and we felt so energized and glad to see our friends and teachers again in Buds class. It was great to see how our friends were well-dressed today for a special event. Yearbook photo day! We knew that it was going to be easy because we were all prepared for this moment. When we went upstairs in the office, we saw Shelley helping us out together with the photographers. All we needed to do was smile and “click”. It was a nice shot. For some, being in a different environment and being away from Buds class could be challenging. However, we could always take another photo in March next year, so we still have time to prepare how to smile at the camera. Thank you, Erika, for taking us up and down and for guiding us throughout the process. In the end, with a braided and brushed-up look on our hair, it was indeed a fashionable day at Ohana.
Tables Activities
We got some painting materials and a nice combination of sand, rice, cinnamon, and turmeric powder on one table. We enjoyed smelling and touching this set because we remembered what we did yesterday with our sensory activity. Some leaves in the tray were ready to use to add up to our art activity.
The first step, we took a slab of brown paint from the tray. We felt that the consistency was quite different because John told us that we also put glue together with paint. No wonder it was pretty sticky! The second step, we sprinkled some sand on the paper and thought it was a great idea to touch and feel the material we’re using and see how it combined with the paint. Again, the texture was different, but it gave us a more sensory experience with our hands. The third step, we added the dried leaves and chose the one we thought was better on the canvas we were working on.
The other table was busy with the playdough, animal figurines, colorful sticks, and popsicle sticks. One of our friends was busy making her happy birthday cake and offered it to her teachers and friends. She then went to the animal toys and delivered them to her friends. Liezel was also very kind in helping us create lots of figures.
Floor Activities
The floor was busy with balanced beams and some wooden animal toys. We had some puzzles in our room. Nanako worked with us, and one thing that we noticed that we’re all getting so good at this. We slowly compared the colors of each piece and tried to figure which parts went to where and it was a mind-stimulating activity for all of us. It was such an excellent opportunity for everyone to experience this 25-piece big jigsaw puzzle and we loved it! When our friends put the final piece, you could see the big happy smile from them. Thank you, Nanako, for also helping us and making sure that you guided us the whole time.
Circle Time
For our gathering time, we bounced around the classroom like a ball. We did a long bounce, short bounce, fast and heavy bounces. We also ran as fast as we could to include more movement and exercise in our routine.
We all sat and sang our good morning song. We greeted our friends and teachers one by one as we went from one person to another. Then, we invited our animal friends to describe what they liked to eat. John created various shapes like round, flat and long. Then, we were asked question like, “What do you think these animals eat?” It made us think a bit and we’re curious about these animals’ staples. So, we were given choices about whether they could eat the round, flat, or long. Most of our friends said that the elephant, pig, and crocodile.
One of us said they could eat vegetables. Then another question was raised, “What kind of vegetables?” The questions kept on coming and coming and hopefully, we could answer these questions in the next few days.
Park Time
We went to the park and had a great time with our friends. We played balls and tug-of-war with our park rope, climbed on the mesh wall, and ran around barefooted! We even played the racing game from one end to the other, and we were all wearing our game face! Ready for a fantastic race!
Mama Caterpillar discovery
Lastly, we saw a massive caterpillar on one of the bushes on the way back to school. It was impressively massive, and we loved the white streaks around it. Our friends got curious and asked about what they also eat to live. One of our friends responded, “It can eat fish”. We also thought that this caterpillar was also called “Mama Caterpillar”. Mama Caterpillar is such a great comparison of a caterpillar. What a lovely day of discovery again in Buds class!
Lots of love,
