Birthday Party and Shapes in Nature

Yom Huledet Samay Agh!

Happy Birthday!

おたんじょうび おめでとう!

Today we celebrated S’s second birthday  :)  We hope he enjoyed receiving our birthday card.  We certainly enjoyed receiving a very nice gift from you :)  We also learned and played around more shapes.  Did you know that you can find lots of shapes in nature?

Morning Activities

Veggies and Fruits Stamping

We have been making, tracing, painting, drawing and stamping different shapes that we find in the classroom but how about finding shapes from the things we eat?  On the table, we found a potato, orange, green pepper and lotus root all cut in half.  Hmm...Ready for cooking?  Actually, we dipped them in plates of paint and made stamps on a piece of paper.  Guess what shapes we made?  Many friends enjoyed making circles and funny patterns so easily.  Well, K looked like he was more interested in poking his fingers in the orange...

Road Maps and Cars

Today we didn’t use the usual road map —Goh san and Tamara helped tape the floor with a masking tape in a rectangle shape and inside it, there were more road maps in different shapes.  We went all over the floor with our cars.  Vroom Vroom Vroom...

Sensory Bins

There were buckets some with kinetic sand and some with oatmeal and we tried digging  out buttons in shapes of circle, triangle, heart, square, star and hexagon.  Especially for our younger friends, sensory activities calm us down and we just love feeling different textures—we could spend a good long time doing the most simple action such as pouring in and out the sand.

Imaginative Play

Though we don’t have the kitchen area or the dress up corner anymore, we always find a way to explore with our imaginative play.  Why?  Because we live in the world of imagination and by playing out the world in our head, we are understanding this real world better.  E found a big fluffy dog and can you guess what she was doing here?

Circle Time

Today we packed our things a little earlier than usual and while we were singing some songs, John John came into the classroom with his guitar. The teachers had also set up the computer so that the screen was projected on our wall and soon after, S’s mommy, daddy, brother and sister appeared.  We sang and danced around the circle singing Happy Birthday in English and Japanese.  Then S’s family delighted everyone by singing it in Hebrew! S’s mommy and daddy brought us a book to share too!

We had an extra time before the park time so we had a second circle time.  Nanako showed five shapes — circle, triangle, star, heart and hexagon.  Then she showed a picture of strawberry, sunflower and starfish.  We tried to match which shapes match the pictures.  “Hexagon” was a very big word for us but we realize that there are so many shapes and patterns that you can spot in nature or should we say,   so many shapes and patterns in fact, come from nature!  Our learning is so limitless — so our are curiosity and energy!

Thank you for another  lovely day!

Love from Buds xoxo
