The Boy Who Cried Wolf
We saw Pauline taking out some finger puppets and toy animals as we prepared for snack time.
“What are you looking for?” A asked, peering over her shoulder as she looked into our toy animal box.
“I’m looking for sheep,” she replied. A and N helped her to find the sheep.
Kai read Here We Are by Oliver Jeffers after our snacks. It wonderfully tells us where and who we are in planet Earth, and where Earth is amongst the stars and other planets.
We were supposed to get ready for the park, but the teachers said that we won’t go today.
“But, why?” Z asked. “It’s not raining yet– I can see it’s not yet raining outside!” she said. But the teachers said that it might rain anytime soon, so it was better to be safe inside.
“I have an umbrella,” A said.
“I have my raincoat!” S added.
“Right now?” Pauline asked them.
“At home,” A and S both answered.
We sat in a circle and we sang our Good morning” song as Pauline played her ukulele. We also sang “If You’re Happy and You Know It”. Pauline then started to put the finger puppets on. She also had a small piece of fake grass, and then she placed the sheep on it. She started to tell the story of The Boy Who Cried Wolf……
There was an old man who owned a farm and it had sheep which he liked to take care of. But, he was going away on a trip, so he asked a boy to take care of his sheep while he was gone.
The boy did as we has told, and he took care of them all day, every day. One day, he was feeling bored and he doesn’t have anyone to talk to but the sheep. He suddenly thought it was a great idea to play a joke on the townspeople to pass his time. He called out “Help! Help! There’s a wolf!” and all the townspeople heard this, and they ran all the way from the town to the farm. The boy laughed and said, “I’m kidding!”, which made the people upset. The next day, the boy was bored again, and he was thinking of things to do.
“He play with sheep,” A suggested. The boy did exactly this, but he was still bored after.
“He take care of sheep,” A suggested. The boy did this, but he was still bored. So, he decided to play a joke on the townspeople again. He did this 2 more times, and they got more and more upset.
One night, the boy heard a scary “Aaa– WOOO!” which was followed by some footsteps. Behold, the wolf has arrived! The boy urgently shouted for “HELP!” again, bu nobody came. The wolf took the sheep one by one for his dinner, and he lived happily ever after. The boy did not– he was scared and sad and feeling sorry that he played a joke on the townspeople and lied to them about the wolf. Now, no one believed him. THE END.
“How do you feel about the story?” Pauline asked us.
“Sad,” A said. “Grandpa go back home and no sheep,” he said.
“The story makes me sad,” S said. “There is a wolf, and the boy cried.”
“I’m sad because S is sad,” Z said.
“Sad, because he is crying,” A said.
“Why nobody wants to help the boy?” Sayaka asked us.
“The town people did not come. They don’t help him,” S said.
“Because he is joking,” H said. He’s right– the story taught us the importance of telling the truth. Not telling the truth is called lying, and it hurts other people as we’re not being nice to them. So we should always do our best to—
“Tell the truth!” we chorused.
“I remember when I watched Jurassic Park….” N suddenly blurted out after we talked about the story.
“Oh, I love dinosaurs!” Z announced dramatically. Alexander’s eyes lit up.
“Dinosaurs!” he excitedly said. Maybe we can save our dinosaur topic for next time, hey?
After our story time, we had our indoor fun and played “Here Comes the Boulder!” Pauline and Sayaka were being cheeky and they were rolling not 1 but 3 balls, so we it was a mad dash not to be hit by the “boulders”! It’s actually hard to run AND laugh at the same time, haha! S won the first round, and S and R won the second round.
Our free play time in the morning was pretty busy as usual– we played with some number puzzles, and S and D played with Mr. Potato. Oh, and yes, D is finally back! We missed him a lot, and we were excited to play with him again! We also requested for our small Lego blocks today, too. On the wall, we saw something interesting in our “What do you think?” area. Hmmm… you can check out some of the pictures we have of it here and you can let us know what you think.
In the middle of snack time, we had our earthquake drill, and we did really well. Everyone was calm and went under the tables. We donned our protective hats and carefully went downstairs with our teachers.
Phew! What a day, huh? How about you? How was your day?
Love,
All the happy little bunnies in Petals Class.
