Stomping Like the Wild Things
“We stomp our feet like how the Wild Things do!
Big stomping sounds that make us great!”
FREE PLAY PERIOD
Stomping on Playdough
We entered the room with a confused look because one of the tables was replaced with just an empty mat. Our eyebrows were raised when Erika asked us to take our shoes & socks off before we get to step on the mat… what was going on?
Aha! The play dough that Nanako made for us before was brought out and the task was to play & stomp on it using our feet! It was interesting to see how some of us didn’t quite like the feeling of playdough on our feet but enjoys it when our hands are used. We stomped really hard on it and even placed some playdough in between our little toes which was ticklish!
This activity aimed to help us with our self help skill of putting on/off our own socks & shoes and cleaning our feet after playing.
Sorting Puzzle Pairs with Goh San
One of the new activities that we did today was sorting puzzle pairs. The puzzle pairs have colors and textures printed on it that we had to correctly match with pieces that had corresponding pictures of the said color & texture. We are glad that Goh San came over to guide us in doing this activity.
Music Time with John
Listening to live music is one thing but being able to play and hear the sound being produced whenever our little fingers press a key on the piano or strum the strings of an ukulele is an amazing experience! We always have an awestruck face when we get to hear beautiful sounds from instruments that we get to play.
Making Art with Nanako
Nanako guided some of our friends who haven’t finished some of the artworks such as hand x-ray making. It was a fun experience to feel the marker moving in between our fingers while tracing.
CIRCLE TIME
Our amazing feet were once again the star of our Circle Time! Instead of wearing the bells on our wrists, we wore it around our ankles and had to stomp our feet for it to make a sound.
Dancing and moving to Ella Jenkin’s “Stop and Go” is also a favorite of ours. We love listening to the rhythm of the song and making interesting poses when the song askes us to stop.
After we had our snacks, we were read the story of “Where the Wild Things Are” by Maurice Sendak. Max, the little boy in the story, can be mischievous at times that he went and became the leader of the Wild Things. Just like the Wild Things, we moved our feet to make loud stomping sounds that made it feel like we were making a wild rumpus!
Inspired by the story, we went on to do fun “wild” activities that require us to use our feet such as kicking balls and using the stilts to get to one place to another.
Thank you for a wonderful day!
