Happy Monday! It’s the start of yet another week, and for today, we talked about numbers! Pauline showed us numbers one by one, and she asked us to identify them.

“Six,” Y said when Pauline held up 6.

“Nine,” A said when the teachers showed 9.

“Zero,” K answered when he saw number 0.

We identified other numbers up until number 10. Number 10 is made up of two number– 1 and 0!

Our teachers then told us that our activity for today is counting– with our sense of sight, hearing, and touch!

First, we used our sense of touch. Inside a bag, we need to count how many things are inside by just using our hands. Some of our friends tried and each gave different answers– 6, 7, 4. But, actually, there were 5 things inside! It was a bit difficult to count, especially when the things got mixed together inside. Pauline took away some, and we tried to count them again by just touching.

“1...2…” K counted. “2!” He gave his final answer. Z tried and he said he thinks there are 4, and E was enthusiastically counting 1...2...3...4...5..6…” Pauline counted and there were actually just 2 things left inside the bag!

Next, we used our eyes to count. Sayaka turned off the lights and we counted how many times the light turned on. First, we counted 5, then next we counted 7.

After that, Pauline had a castanet. She said we should count how many times she clacked them together.

Clack...clack….clack...clack...clack. Her castanet went.

“5!” We said. Every time she clacked, we counted. We were really good and we even counted up until twelve!

“Do you know what numbers make twelve?” Pauline asked. We went silent.

“Hmm… I don’t know,” K answered truthfully.

“Okay, let me show you,” Pauline said. “It’s 1 and 2!” she told us. It’s a bit of a big number for us.

Next, Pauline clacked the castanets so fast, L widened her eyes in surprise and tried to catch up with counting! We giggled as we couldn’t count suuuuper fast!

“How can we count with our mouths?” H asked. When we count and say the numbers out loud– that’s counting with our mouths. If we want to include our sense of taste, then we can count how many big bites we take or how many pieces of the yummy food we put in our mouths! Heehee!

Aside from that, before circle time, Sayaka talked to us about how we should use our gentle hands. She had a friend to help us out– Bob the Goat. She asked us, “Do you think Bob will be happy if I push him?” and Sayaka pretended to push Bob the Goat.

“No! Don’t push him!” S said. He’s right, as Bob will feel sad. Sayaka and Bob reminded us that we should gentle hands and nice words with our friends.

Our teachers also reminded us about how we should use gentle hands with our books– our teachers have noticed that some of us just leave the books on the floor after reading. Then, sometimes, we accidentally step on the books. Our teachers said that we’re giving ouchie to our books– if we can’t take care of our books, then maybe other classes, like Buds and Flowers, will take better care of them. This made us feel sad, and we promised we would take care of them.

We also had gym class today and had our warm–up exercises. Then we practiced how to play tamaire with Tsurumi sensei. It was so much fun!

We saw Kai hang up our beautiful autumn artwork on the wall, and it had pictures along with a story of how we finished it. Don’t worry, it will be in our portfolios, so you can get to see it, too!

That’s all for today– how about you? How was your day?

Love,

All the optimistic little bunnies in Petals Class
