We are florists and we learn about flowers
Good morning everyone! We had another fantastic day again in Buds class. Our friends were quite excited about what’s going to happen today. First, we all did our routine like washing hands, putting our shoes and choosing the right place for us to spend our time with our friends and teachers. Our favorite activity today was working with our Origami Flower Art and some puzzles.
One table was prepared for our Making a flower art and we saw a real set of flowers this time. We had paper cut-outs again and trays that we could use to work on how to put them together. We tried our best in counting the petals and put as much as we could to make our flowers more stunning.
There were also matching wooden plates and it was also very popular. The wooden plates have pictures that we could match with a bigger plate that has all the pictures on them. It was more like a memory game. But this one was easier to play which is developmentally appropriate for our class.
In the library, we loved reading books. We asked our teachers if they could read us some stories we like such as “No, David”, “Excuse me” and “The Number Book”. We all sat down and listened to the lovely voices of our teachers. We just missed hearing them live.
Since we have a different system now in Buds class, we are still learning how to do them efficiently and effectively. It is a slow process but we are glad that everyone was very cooperative and doing their best to learn how to do this new routine in the classroom.
Manipulatives and some Montessori equipment were also available on the small tables. We’ve taken turns and made sure that we all had a chance to do the activity individually. The cushion slides was also being used frequently and our friends loved to get on it and after jumping out and sliding down from it, they went off and ran around the classroom.
We did our music sessions with John again and this time, we used the egg shakers and scarves. We also read a book called the Bright Yellow Flower by Judith Hoffman Corwin. It talked about the flowers and how they can interact with other creatures such as the bee, spider, bird and hedgehog. We definitely enjoyed hearing the book and how it actually gave us more understanding about what flowers for our nature and it is not just about giving it as a gift on special occasion.
We also learned the various names of the flowers that we had on the table. They are the Chrysanthemum, Feverfew and Carnation. The names were quite difficult to remember but it’s great to know their names and to learn new words in the classroom.
The whiteboard and blackboard were also available for drawing and one of our friends were so good in sketching her family. Thank you so much Ohana for another beautiful day!
Lots of love,
All the children from Buds Class
