January Birthday Jamboree

Happy Birthday Friends!!

Welcome back Mr. Sun! We’ve been waiting so long for the beautiful sunshine! Compared to yesterday, it was so much warmer. Has Spring already come? At least today and tomorrow are going to be warm, and the next week or so won’t be as cold as it was yesterday. We entered our classroom and greeted our friends and teachers and it was time to start our marvelous day! We had several fun things to do this morning. First, we needed to do a little art activity with Sayaka. She had us paint some paper cups. We got to choose from either blue or pink. We had paint brush-es of all different sizes we could use, but some of us chose to just use our hands, it was much faster! When we were finished painting, Sayaka took our cups and set them on the art shelf to dry, we wondered what we were going to turn them into. Out on the carpet area we had the stickle bricks to play with. We love to play with various blocks in Petals because it lets our imagination run free. We made all sorts of things and proudly showed our teachers. We also had a short music time with Liezel because she can play the Ukulele too! A little while later Nimo came back to Petals from Drop-off time. He brought his small Ukulele from home and he let us play it along with the Ukulele he has here at school. We all sat down and rested the Uke on our laps and gently strummed away. There were lots of friends that wanted to play it so we all passed the Uke around and had a turn. We packed away our toys a little earlier than usual and huddled together in a circle. We noticed that Pauline wasn't here, L told us, “She’s in Buds today!” We were a bit worried that Pauline might have gotten sick today, but seems like she’s ok. Nimo explained to us briefly about “Teacher Exchange Day”. On exchange day teachers move to different classes for two days to see how our other friends and teachers are doing. Today, Pauline is down at Buds, Liezel is in Petals and John is up in Flowers. Nimo told us that exchanging is very important for the teachers, we didn’t mind because we love having guests in Petals! Luckily for us, we had another guest visit petals today, it was Z’s mom A and baby brother L. Nanako was supposed to come today, but because N fell ill Nanako had to stay at home with him. U is such a big girl, she understood and was okay by herself! We kick started our party with Nimo reading U’s favorite story, The New Small Person by Lauren Child. It was a very colorful and fun story about Elmore having a new small person come to his house. The new small person was Elmore’s baby brother, and the story talks about how everything around Elmore changed and eventually he came to realize that having a brother isn’t bad after all. During the story Nimo asked us if anyone had a small person. A raised his hand and said, “H-chan!”, Z pointed at L, S said, “I do! D”. A told everyone, “I don’t have any small person at home”, and H said, “I’m the small person!”. U’s favorite book soon became our favorite book as we were all glued to the story. After the story, A got out her silly potato that could sing! We played “Hot Potato” together. It took a few turns to get used to the rules, but once we understood how the game flowed, we went wild from excitement. We all sang Happy birthday to our birthday celebrants we moved over to the table for our special birthday treat! Our Birthday Mommies, prepared for us a special Carrot cupcake, rice crackers, and an amazing The Hungry Catapillar apple plate! We thanked them for preparing such a treat and we dug in. We also got a special present from Z which our teachers were very excited for. We got “Slinkys”! Nimo and Sayaka briefly showed us how it works, we can’t wait to play with it at home! We all got ready for the park then we had a brief circle time. Nimo showed us the book we read on Monday, Here We Are by Oliver Jeffers. He read the last page, “Take care of our earth, because it’s all we got” to remind us what we were talking about, how to care for our planet. Nimo noticed that we were turning the faucet too much. So he put a sticker on the faucet to give us a visual que on to how far we can twist the nob. We gave it a try then headed off to the park! It was a beautiful, sunny, warm day! We had lots of fun running around with our friends! The weather people said tomorrow is going to be sunny too! We can’t wait to play with our friends again! See yall again tomorrow!
