A Day of Singing and Dancing
A postcard was waiting for us in the class addressed to FLOWERS CLASS STUDENTS! Guess who it came from? It was from the Takanawa Post Office. It read, “Thank you for coming to the post office. It’s cold, so be sure to wash your hands and not catch a cold.” Everybody giggled! We saw at the post office how postcards are sorted out by a machine, so we are so happy to actually get one! After Vi read us the postcard, we had an interesting talk.
Ra: Who can write that postcard (message). They are Japanese!
Vie: The postman, Mr Yokohama wrote here. “I was translated by Google.”
That’s how he was able to write his message in English. Who or what is Google?
Sh: Google is you say “Hello!”.
Be: We could give another postcard to the post office and we call it a REPLY.
Vie: What is reply?
Mo: Reply is people come to some work.
Ma: If someone say something and someone say something again.
Be: If we give them the postcard, then they will REPLY again.
Thank you, Ben for giving us a brilliant idea! It would be great to send a postcard to the post office as our REPLY.
It’s wonderful to have our calendar back in action! Since we didn’t have anyone signed up as calendar helpers, we worked together to make sure our calendar shows the correct information. To begin with, we counted up to 20 Then, we figured out what comes after 20. And everybody chorused:
“Today is Thursday. It’s November 21. It’s sunny! “
Looks like our friends are ready to be calendar leaders again! Our calendar activity helps us work on our number sequence and introduces us to number recognition as well. Also, we are able to familiarize ourselves with the concept of days of the week and months of the year. We are always proud that we could tell which card represents the month or day of the week by looking at the beginning sound of the word. We get to know more about numbers and letter sounds through our calendar activity! What a fun way to learn these concepts!
There are so many things that we have learned about our body. We discovered not only the names of the different body organs, but most importantly what they do for our body. We had a very interesting discussion about this yesterday and then put these into a song! How exciting, isn’t it? What’s more exciting is that some of our friends are already singing it. Don’t be surprised if you hear us at home singing about our body parts and what they do in our body!
“Everybody has a body. Everybody has a body parts! Body parts!” ….
The song goes on to talk about our lungs, stomach, arteries and vein, and a lot more. The lyrics have pictograms so we could get cues as to what the words are.
We had our Ballet class with Mar today. After our warm-up activities, Mar taught us dance which has a funny title — Santa Hunt! We enjoyed the dance steps as well as the lyrics! At the end of the song, when we thought we’d be able to see Santa… “white fur, black eyes and sharp teeth” ?! It was not Santa that we found, but a polar bear!!!! We can’t wait until next week when we could dance Santa Hunt again.
Here are more photos during Ballet class. It’s a good time to stretch our muscles and bones to the beat of music. We had so much fun!
Our morning work stations kept our hands busy and at the same time gave us time to enjoy the beginning of our day at school. Ry, and A were busy rolling some pink slime to make worms, while La and Ed enjoyed making many gyoza or dumplings.
Be, Ed and Ra seemed very serious as they worked on their crafts (post office drawing and Christmas cards). Way to go!
Play time is always a fun time, whether it is indoors or outdoors.
We had so much fun making things, singing song about our body parts, dancing Santa Hunt and playing in the park. All these activities were fun because we shared them with our friends! We love our friends and we enjoy spending time with them!
