November 17 – Falling Leaves
November 17 – Falling Leaves
All the leaves are falling down, falling down, falling down!
What a wonderful day we had today! Blessed with yet another day of sunshine and birds singing.
We started out our morning playing with mirrors and Noah’s Arc toys. It was wonderful to see children playing with the toys and relating them with our classroom routines. Some students lined up the animals, while singing “Peanut butter lips, marshmallow toes, hands glued by your side, follow your nose,” which is usually sung when lining up for the park or to wash their hands. The children also pretended to act like the animals and pretended to fall asleep. The highlight for them was figuring out that they could use the Arc as a pretend boat that could slide around on the carpet!
It was fascinating to see the children’s reaction to the mirror box. While some loved to look at each other or themselves, others wanted to see the animals’ reflections. They looked at the reflections of the animals and noticed that there were so many in the mirror.
The children were also “cooking” up a storm in the kitchen, making rice and desserts. While at the tables, we continued with our group art project, were the children practiced their tearing and ripping skills with Chiaki.
We headed to the park early today to enjoy the beautiful weather. After we had our snacks at the park, it was time to get up and run around! Nimo and Kiki played football with the children and encouraged them to use their legs and feet to stop and kick the ball. Half way through, the game changed into a rugby match, where students were running away with the football. Meanwhile the other children were playing a magical leaf game with Chiaki. They counted down “3,2,1!” and through their leaves in the air and pretended they disappeared.
Once we came back, it was circle time with Kiki. The children looked at different types of autumn leaves and practiced their counting. The children took turns singing and counting, while pretended to be birds who wanted to “eat” the leaves.
The children also sang a new song with Kiki:
(To the Tune of London Bridge)
“All the leaves are falling down, falling down, falling down.
All the leaves are falling down, falling down, falling down.
Let’s rake them up!
Rake them in a great big pile, great big pile, great big pile.
Rake them in a great big pile, great big pile, great big pile.
Let’s all jump in!”
The children loved jumping into the pretend pile of leaves, along with pretending to be a bird.
At last our day ended with a fun dance party, listening to DISCO music and waiting for goodbye time. Needless to say the week ended with a fun filled day of learning and dancing with our friends!
Thank you so much Ohana and hope you all have a wonderful weekend!
Lots of love,
