Our lovely morning at Ohana!

Early in the morning, the weather was so rainy and wet. We tried to get to school as fast as we could so that we didn’t have to get so wet when we arrived. Our day was filled with fun activities and songs that we always love to do and sing. Seeing the cars and trucks on our carpet area really caught our attention and started playing with them together with our toy map. Then, we also went to our kitchen play area and found some food toys that we could enjoy for the day. On our activity tables, we had jigsaw puzzles, placemat and first drawing activity. For some of our friends, they already finished making their own placemat. Hence, they can probably use it by next week. Our other friends need more time to make the placemat so we’ll just have to wait until they are ready.

The library was so busy as well. We loved to get our alphabet books. Then, we all began to sing “ABC” song for so many times. We could sing it slowly and quickly until we all got tired and requested for another song. Goh-san was also here to take care of us today. She was so amazing with the new children for she always made it sure that they were busy and occupied with fun activities. So, what she did was she went to the kitchen area and started pretending that she was cooking and baking. Our friends were so interested and they all joined in with her. She then asked everyone, “What would you like to have?” and we all replied our favorite food until we ate almost everything from the kitchen (pretend play is very important for this age; developing their self-confidence and exploring their imagination is the goal for this type of play).

We had a short circle time about the musical instruments. Our teachers showed us the recorder, tambourine, maracas, drums, bell and guitar. We listened to each sound attentively. After knowing all the names, we chose our own musical instruments and started playing with them. We sang our “Good morning” songs and began shaking, strumming and tapping on our instruments. We also learned the right way on playing these instruments but for some of us, it may take time to understand it fully. Thus, we’ll just have to be patient until our fine motor skills are more developed. After that, we also read a book about “Daddy hugs” by Karen Katz. It was all about counting and things we do with our dads. For example, daddy can give five “kiss it all better” boo-boo hugs.

The last part of our day, we played our “sleeping game”. The game was all about listening to the music while lying down on the floor (pretending to sleep). When the music stopped, we all stood up and danced around with our teachers. It was such a fantastic game and we all had a great time! Thank you so much Ohana for the fabulous day and see you all again tomorrow!

Lots of love,

All the children from Buds class 2016-2017
