November 9 - This little light of mine

Good morning everyone! What a wonderful day and it was quite windy outside! Our teachers were waiting for us and greeted us with a good morning. They also said that ‘we’re going to have a beautiful day again.’ We’re pretty sure about that because of the awesome activities they prepared for us. We did our morning jobs and proceeded to our art activities.

We did our face art again and this time Chiaki helped us out. She told us how to do it and it was quite easy to know which parts we need to pick and stick. We also had our beading activity on the other table but we had to be careful in doing this so our teachers were there to guide us on how to insert the pipe cleaners in the holes. There were a lot of beads and we had to choose the ones we liked. One of our friends told us that they loved the golden and silver beads.

We got the Lego blocks and some food toys that we could cook for today. Sayaka was there to help us in constructing a building. It got so tall and we’re so excited to see how we could make it this high.

During our circle time, we did some actions, singing “hello everybody”, “good morning song”, “learning our names”, and then John took out a small candle and we talked about what makes us happy. Some friends said, “A banana makes me happy”, “An apple makes me happy” and lastly, “My mommy, daddy and grandma make me happy”. He lighted a small candle and he asked, “What do you see on the candle?” Then, we all replied there’s light. Our teachers also told us not to touch the light of the candle because it’s hot. Hence, we had to be very careful. Then, John explained that this light is like our own happiness. We let it shine and make other people happy too. We can give a smile to someone and most of the time they will smile back. He blew the candle off and the light went out. Our teacher said when we’re sad our light disappears but not to worry because there is always a reason to smile again. So, he lighted the candle again and we all sang…

This little light of mine, I’m going to let it shine

This little light of mine, I’m going to let it shine

This little light of mine, I’m going to let it shine

Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine.

Our teachers also told us what makes them happy and they all said, “family, friends and food”.

We went to the park after our reflective circle time. It was nice to stay in the green area together with Flowers and Petals classes. We ran, hopped, played with a ball. On the way to school, it was windy. Our friends told us that they can feel the wind touching their faces. Chiaki read a book to us about Clifford the dog who saved two friends when their house was burning. The book taught us about to be helpful all the time. Thank you so much Ohana and see you all again tomorrow.

Lots of love,

All the happy children from Buds class 2016-2017
