Back to School!

Thursday, August 28: Welcome back!

Welcome back to school! We were all so happy to see familiar faces and a few new ones! We would like to extend a very warm welcome to our two new Buds class friends, K and L! They joined us today and got to experience some of our new classroom routine. We are so happy to have you both as new additions to our class!

***NOTICE!*** School calendars are going home inside communication pouches this week. Please enjoy looking through them at home and taking note of the important dates and events to remember.

This morning we geared up for our new school year by jumping straight into our new routine! We practiced putting away our own belongings and then went right to exploring the new classroom layout!

T and R enjoyed flipping through their favorite books in the library on the cozy bench together. Nearby, K and E enjoyed preparing pretend foods by cutting slices of fruits and vegetables. YUM!

K helped show his friend H how to put away his things by pointing to and modeling how to put away his snack and water bottle. What a great friend! On the front table, T and L had fun exploring the animal puzzles and fine motor latch and buckle board. It’s a great way to exercise our fingers!

Before we knew it, it was time to clean up and gather for our morning song we will sing each day, called “Hello, hello”.

We were each given a colorful mat to sit down on and then Brandon introduced two pictures titled “HOME” and “SCHOOL”, where we place our name cards onto the board when we are at school and place our friends’ name cards at HOME when they are not at school. Afterwards, we counted all the names at school and arrived at the number eight!

When we finished, Brandon introduced some prompt cards with pictures that show us how to gesture when the teachers make the same gesture when it’s time to listen, to remind us when to use gentle hands, to use our looking eyes, listening ears and more to help us focus and treat our surroundings with love.

T: “Ohana, ears”

After going over our new routine we then cleaned up our mats and gathered our snacks for snack time before practicing walking together up the school stairs with our teachers! Everyone did an amazing job walking safely and after visiting the garden upstairs, it was time for us to go home.

Thank you for an amazing first day back Buds friends!

Love,

Buds XOXO
