A Thanksgiving Celebration

November 25, 2025

Happy Tuesday! Today we celebrated Thanksgiving by cooking the sweet potatoes we dug at the farm and we also cooked chicken!

THANKSGIVING DAY CELEBRATION

We shared what we already knew about Thanksgiving.

S: American holiday.

E: People do it at home.

K: The king was mad so they left to play somewhere else.

We learned that it is a day in which people spend time with their family and friends while eating food and giving thanks. When do we say thank you?

M: When you get a toy or present.

J: Thank you for today!

We learned about people who live in America called Wampanoag. They were very good farmers and were very successful providing what they needed to survive. They used a genius system of growing corn, squash, and beans in the same space so that they each benefited from being next to each other. When people from England arrived to the land on big ships around 400 years ago, they couldn’t grow any food for themselves, and the Wampanoag gave them food and taught them how to farm. At the end of their harvest, they had a big feast to celebrate. This would later become the inspiration for Thanksgiving.

K: They had a party!

S: They ate all the food!

We can be thankful for the Wampanoag and other people like them for growing corn, beans, squash, and many other things like potatoes that we often eat. Without them, we may not have even eaten those foods. We can also learn from them the power of generosity and giving to others in need.

WHAT WE ARE THANKFUL FOR

We took the time to reflect on some of the things we wrote down for the Grateful Tree in our classroom and think of what else we are thankful for. Some of us shared.

S: My family. They always help.

S: Daddy and mommy. They give me dragons!

M: Grandma and grandpa – give me yummy food!

S: Grandma – she let me watch YouTube.

W: S and donuts!

J: Mickey mouse, because I have hat.

K: Mommy because she say I can go to Disneyland.

R: McDonald’s – I like it!

J: C, E, L!

K: Party!

We read A Plump and Perky Turkey by Teresa Bateman. The book told the story about turkeys who escaped becoming dinner on Thanksgiving Day. They turkeys also escaped us here in Flowers Class, as we had chicken for lunch instead!

Let’s all keep what were thankful for in mind, and look out for more ways and opportunities to say thank you to those who help us.

Have a wonderful evening! See you tomorrow!

Love,

Flowers
