Monday Art Day

This is one of the mystery letters that we uncovered during circle time.

Hello and welcome to another new week! At the end of the day, we realized that the theme for today is….. Painting! It sure was fun!

As we finished our jobs, Kai invited us to do some painting. He printed out different pictures of flowers so we can look at it and be inspired while we’re painting- because spring is the season of flowers! He gave us a big, black construction paper,  and we used red, yellow, purple, and pink…. The effect it made as it contrasted with the black color was beautiful!

We asked Sayaka if we could play with cars, so she brought out the big mat for us which had a map of the city on it. Cars are our favorite, and we used them to race each other. We enjoyed playing and painting for a long time, since it was raining and we couldn’t go outside (Unless it’s Forest Friday, hihi), until the teachers played the cleanup song. After cleaning up, we made a circle and we heard the teachers play….. Auld Lang Syne?! Wait, this is what the stores play here in Japan when they’re about to close! The teachers laughed and teased us that it was closing time already! Of course, we said “No! Not yet!”

R volunteered to count how many friends were here today- and she counted 10. We then talked about what day it was today (“Friday!” C said, and Pauline giggled. “I wish it were Friday!” she told us, as that was her favorite day.) and sang the “7 Days of the Week” song. We figured out that it was Monday today, and tomorrow is Tuesday; our class ballerinas usually have ballet every Monday, then for tomorrow it’s time for karate.

We saw that Pauline arranged the easel near her, and she used the pegs to hang up a sheet of paper. She then brought out the sand letters and placed them on the floor. She then told us that she needs our help to find out what mystery letter is hiding in the paper by using watercolor and a paintbrush. M was eager to try it out first, and he found letter ‘a’. Pauline told us what letter ‘a’ sounds like, and we looked through the name cards to find out which friends have this letter in their names.

Next, S found letter ‘b’.

“Who do you think has letter ‘b’ in their names?” Pauline asked.

“B,” H said, and Pauline took his name card.

“Is this your name, B?” Pauline asked.

“Yes!” B said.

“Does it have letter ‘b’?”

B pointed to the letter that his name starts with. Yes, he and H were right! Although, his name starts with the big letter ‘B’, not the small ‘b’.

Next, H found letter ‘c’.

“What letter is it?” Pauline asked.

“C,” H said. Yes, C has the letter ‘c’ in her name, same as C. Theirs start with the big letter ‘C’. A painted next to find out ‘d’, and O helped to match it with the same sand letter.

“Does anyone here have the letter ‘d’ in their names?”

“No ‘d’,” O said- and he’s correct! O also wanted to paint, and he was able to find letter ‘e’. L pointed out to the name cards to tell us which friend has the letter ‘e’ in their names.

We read a Disney Princess book about the letters, “P is for Princess”. It was a nice book that taught us how to write letters. It showed big letters and small letters. Hmm. We hope we can also find a superhero or cars book about letters, too.

That’s all for today- how about you? How was your day?

Love,

All the happy children in Petals Clas
