What is a Biome?

This week we learned about different shelters and homes around the world, and why they are the way they are. We learned that snow can keep us warm and houses can have legs! We thought about why some animals live where they do, and today we learned what a biome is.

QUESTION OF THE DAY

What is a biome?

Nobody knew what it was, so C showed us some pictures of a jungle and the arctic. Then I shared another kind of place.

I: Savanna!

We learned that jungle, arctic, and savanna are types of biomes! We looked at other biomes and thought about what kind of animals or things we might find there.

I: Savanna. Elephant, gazelle.

R: Hippo

Flowers: Forest!

M: Leaves

I: Bear

K: Trees

R: Deer and trees

M: Shark

I: Seashells

R: Fish

L: Seal, orca whale.

S: I don’t know

Then we played a game where we named animals and acted like them as we went from biome to biome.

S: Polar bear

R: Wolf

I: Gazelle

M: Seahorse

K: Octopus

R: Stag beetle

L: Monkey

We will learn much more about biomes and some of the jobs we can do in them after the fall break!
