Good afternoon Buds families!
What a busy first week at school we’ve had! Our first week was full of first experiences!
Our litts Buds began their very first artworks for the new school year in the form of an adorable self portrait which teachers encouraged them to paint with watercolor and by exploring colors of their own interests. The portraits came to life with lines of wonderful color! After some of them were dry, we added some 3D elements in the form of buttons. We used sticky glue and got messy but loved every minute of it!
Do you remember the last time you used all of your crative energy to make something so perfect that it was uniquely your own? That’s exactly what our little artists have been busy doing! We even stamped our feet and hands with paint to create a set of hand and footprint artworks to be added to a secret project. Hmm.. What will it be? STAY TUNED!
This week, we met our gym teachers Mirai and Rina! They showed us some new ways for us to move our bodies and get active! We also were visited today by our new dance class teacher Annie! We grooved and moved along with her dances and songs, having so much fun!
Our morning jobs have been going very well and we are getting used to the routine before we settle in to enjoy free play time. The Buds are even getting used to noticing the clean up time song and have done a teriffic job pitching in to help their friends and teachers put away their toys and activities! Yay!
One of our favorite things to do each morning is place our name cards onto the whiteboard together. We love getting th echance to come up and bravely place our name on the “at school” side of the board with a smile. Our theme for these next few weeks will be “emotions” and how we feel. To observe happy, angry, scared and sleepy, we sang along to and have been practicing the gestures for “if you’re happy and you know it” by Super Simple Songs.
We read lots of stories this week, closing in on the book finale of “The Color Monster” by Anna Llenas. It’s a great pop-up book story about how the colors we are familiar with can relate and represent how we feel when we are happy (YELLOW), sad (BLUE) and more. Our little Buds laughed at how silly the charcter for “angry” was.
As always, during our circle time, we illicit speaking with many different vocabulary and encourage participation by asking our Buds quations about pictures, stories we read and more! Here is some of our conversation today during circle time:
