Does metal help us?

We started our morning by reviewing our classroom rules and thinking back to what we learned yesterday. We remembered that we can connect metals without using glue by hooking , twisting and looping.

Why do we need to stop when they say red light?

H: Shingo is akai in English is red

T: (it means ) stop

Our question of day helped us explore metals around the classroom. We looked carefully for objects we think is made of metals and discovered  many things we use every day. One by one we talked about how each metal object helps us. We realized that metal helps many of the things we use every day strong , and safe.

K: Metal looks like so much build a wall

M: Yes, because when so much people are in the car, we run and the people run and run from the start of gold medal.

E: I know when we put armor it’s made of metal and we put it on. When someone punch you , they get ouchie. Metal protects us

D: Yes, because pipe cleaners have pointy on the top

T: Metal can help us like pipe cleaners are made of metal and we use it for crafts.

Leo: No. I don’t know

K: I don’t know. No, because he (metal) doesn’t look like the people.

How do these metal things help us?

M: clip things (metal hanger)

E: we can open the lights and turn off the lights (switch)

E: They keep bad people away (fence)

E: They keep your pet not do bad things. Fishing rod!

How does fishing rod help us?

J: Helps us catch fish

Next, we played a fun fishing game using pipe cleaners. We made a fishing rod using pipe cleaners and practiced catching fish with it. We noticed that it was easier to catch fish when we make pur hooks bigger.

To learn more how useful metals are, we worked together in making a simple tent using a metal rod and piece of fabric. We noticed that while fabric provided shade, the metal rod helped the tent stay up.

What can we make with these two materials to help us have shade in the forest?

E: We will get two long metals and put it on the ground and we put the fabric on it.

Finally, we played Red light, Green light game. We all pretended to be cars following traffic rules. We stopped at the red light and continued driving at the green light. It was a lot of fun.

What will happen if cars don’t stop at the stoplight?

D: They will crash.

T: Police see you and catch you

K: Police will come

Today, we learned that the answer to our question of the day is, Yes! Metal helps us in many ways and is an important part of many of the things we use every day.
