Happy Monday! Welcome to Week 3 of Summer School! This week is all about plastic!
QUESTION OF THE DAY
Does plastic float?
First, we defined what it means to float and sink.
T: That means that it stays up. You put it down, it stays up.
We shared some of our thoughts about what happens when plastic makes its way to the ocean and affects the ocean animals.
M: Float to the ocean.
L: Boat is not coming.
E: Inside the sea creatures eat it and they will die. Even the turtles get caught by the net.
M: Some baby turtles they eat the plastic. They will die and get sick.
J: The turtle cannot go out.
We looked at a beach filled with plastic and trash.
M: Plastic in the brown sand.
T: I will go to the beach to clean it up.
How can we clean up the plastic on the beach and in the ocean?
L: Soujiki! I have in my home a robot one.
T: Me too! We push the button.
J: It’s circle and it has four tires. When we push the button it goes under the chairs and clean up.
M: It’s clean-upping the trash!
We saw a photo of a big machine that can take trash floating on the water and clean it up.
We played a game of Sink or Float? We guessed which items in the classroom would float and which would sink. Many of the items were made of plastic, so we were able to answer our question of the day and found that some plastic floats, while others sink.
Have a wonderful evening!
