Flowers building a harmonious Community

Hello everyone! Our Friday morning started with fun activities. We were so excited to play with cars that we borrowed from Petals. We also noticed a new addition to our classroom, our own buckets that we can fill whenever we do kind things! We can’t wait to fill our buckets in the coming days.

R: I played this one before

M: Where?

R: In Petals class

A: What is that? (points at the cups that have their photos)

R: What is that?

W: I want to give it to Tita

S: Me too!

K: Can I put it in the toilet?

Today we started our circle time recalling what we learned yesterday. We remembered that we fixed our problems together and calmly yesterday. Then we answered the question of the day; If we say something that makes a friend sad, should we say sorry? We learned that in our class community, we help and repair. Our discussion led us to thinking about why it is important to repair or make amends if we made a mistake.

  • Review

What did we do yesterday?

R: We fixed the circle

How did we fix the circle?

J: *did the gesture of pushing the chair

S: We used our mouth and hands

S: Do giraffe

J: you just take them to the office

E: maybe just ask them nicely

M: (we can say) sit up please

J: Yesterday we fixed the circle and we did the solution

What do we do if our friend doesn’t like to sit next to us?

Rl: listen to friend

What if there is no space?

E: find another spot

S: ask the one sitting next to that friend if you could change places.

  • Question of the day

R: If we say something that makes a friend sad, should we say sorry?

Flowers: Yes!

What are words that could make our friend sad?

S: I don’t like you

J: I will punch you

R: You are stupid

S: I hate you

M:I don’t want to share with you.

Why do we need to say sorry?

M: Because you do a bad thing

S: because you made your friend sad

K: community helper will be angry

Rl: Everyone need to go to the hospital

J: our bucket will be empty

Please think of the times you need to say sorry to a friend

Ri: if you throw rocks

E: If you throw sand in someone’s eyes

What if it was an accident, should we still say sorry?

S: still need to say sorry. You made him hurt.

Can you think of ways we can show we our sorry without using words?

K: We can say “ I’m so sorry”

I: sorry, I’m not gonna do it again

Rl: do like this (head rub)

K: Maybe we can give them money

M: We gave hug

R: and kiss

Who do we kiss?

E: only mommy and daddy

To hone our problem-solving skills, we were divided into four small groups. Each group is led by a sempai, who will be responsible for reminding younger friends to stay on task. We had to think about how we could repair certain mistakes we usually make in class. All the groups gave meaningful and thoughtful answers, that it was a little difficult for our teachers to decide which one is the best.

K’s Group- Eddie and Isa

S’s Group- Jaejun and Peggy

S’s Group- Ainosuke, Selina, and Warren

M’s Group- kaito and Rigel

What do we do if we break a page from the book that we are reading?

K’s Group- get glue and fix book

S’s Group- say sorry to teacher and let the teacher fix it

S’s Group- let teacher put tape

M’s Group- let teacher fix it

What do we do if a friend grabs your toy and breaks it?

K’s Group- tell the teacher

S’s Group- get the glue and fix

S’s Group- buy a new toy

M’s Group- tell the teacher

What do we do if we accidentally bump into a friend and we say sorry but our friend is still not ok?

K’s Group- say sorry again

S’s Group-tell the teacher

S’s Group- say nice words

M’s Group- tell the teacher

Before we ate lunch, we challenged our problem-solving skills with the Traffic Jam game. We had to figure out on how all cars can go to their destination and not causing a traffic jam. We took turns giving solutions, some we had to revise. In the end we were able to make all cars go to their destination.

This week we learned so much about how a community can work harmoniously if we do our part. We always need to remind ourselves: When mistakes happen, helpers repair them calmly!

Have a nice weekend and see you on Monday!

Love,

Flowers
