Chinese New Year

Morning Art Activity:

We finally started our Keith Haring Art project today! Our teachers printed out some of Keith Haring’s drawings of people and we used them as stencils. We chose a person we wanted to paint and put it down on a piece of white paper. Next we chose a color of paint and use the roller to paint the whole page. After we were done painting and we removed the stencil, we had a cool outline of a person! Once we were done painting, we played with the play dough or the magnet shapes.

Circle Time:

We all finished going to the toilet, washed our hands, then drank some water. We sat down in a circle and talked a little about how we listen to guests because we had O (S and L’s tutor) come to teach us more about Chinese New Year! We joined our other friends in Buds Class and together we listened to Olivia and did a wonderful job with her little quiz game!

O: Today is the first day of Chinese New Year!

Petals: Happy New Year! Xin nian kuai le!

O: What color do you think is important for Chinese New Year?

M: Red!

H: Red!

O: Why is it important?

Y: Nian

L: I’m not scared!

O: That’s right! Nian was scared of red and loud noises! That’s why red is so important. What can you think of that is red?

K: Flag!

L: Apple

M: Oni

O gave each of us a special prize to take home for participating in her quiz game! We put our presents in our backpacks then sat down for circle time. We sang the 7 Continents Song and then put the Chinese flag on our map!

Nimo: Who came to Buds today?

L: O!

Nimo: Which country did she talk about?

M: China!

L: Happy New Year.

N: Xin nian kuai le

Nimo: Where is China?

T: *Points at Asia*

Nimo: Who is from China?

S: Me!

L: Me too!

T: Me!

Y: Daddy, China.

Nimo read us another story about Chinese New Year while our friends got ready for the park.

Thank you for another fabulous day! Have a great evening and see you all again tomorrow!

Love,

Petals
