Electrician

February 10, 2026

Happy Tuesday! We are excited for Dad’s Day tomorrow!

QUESTION OF THE DAY

K: Can you build something.

Most of us said yes! Let’s share the things we’ve built.

M: Build a building with blocks.

S: I made a house with Legos.

E: I made a cannon with metal!

I: I made a paper out of trees.

R: I built a train. A metal train. A big one.

S: I know how to make a pencil.

We know how to make many things! Sometimes when we build things, we don’t only use our hands. What other things can we use to build something?

J: Hammer!

That’s right! We passed around a hammer to feel what a real one is like.

A: It’s heavy.

What else?

K: A tweezer.

We looked at pliers.

J: You can pick things up and turn.

Then we looked at a screwdriver.

K: It spins.

We learned how hammers pound nails into wood, and screwdrivers twist screws into wood. We thought about all the amazing things we could build if we had some wood.

When we learned about nurses, we found out that our teacher used to be a nurse. Today we learned that our teacher used to be a kind of builder. What kind?

S: Bricks?

J: Wall?

M: Concrete?

Our teacher told us he used to install electricity in buildings so that lights turn on and you can plug something into an outlet in the wall. What do we call that kind of builder?

S: Electric man!

E: Electro!

Those names are pretty good, but the actual name is electrician. We also learned that builders need to follow instructions and maps called blueprints that tell them what to build. We made a blueprint of Flowers class and mapped out all the lights and light switches in the room. We counted 9 lights controlled by 5 different switches throughout the room.

Then we took turns playing electrician by feeding three wires through a metal pipe to a light box. Then we put a plastic cover over the wires so it stays safe until someone installs the light fixture or outlet. Building things as a job sounds fun!

Have a wonderful night! See you all tomorrow!

Love,

Flowers
