Making Water Filters

November 10, 2025

Happy Monday! The weather is cold, and it definitely feels like fall is here!

QUESTION OF THE DAY

Louie: Do you need water to live?

We shared the reasoning behind our answer.

K: If you don’t drink water, you will die. But if you drink sea water, your body will be dry soon.

R: Because if you take a shower, you need water.

J: If you go outside, you need to wash hands or body.

S: Because no water, they die.

S: If no water, you’ll die.

E: Do you want to die!? Then you need water.

J: If earthquake, we need water.

We thought about all the places we can find water.

J: In the sea or in the freezer.

L: At my home, because mommy brings me water.

S: Snow

E: You get water from snow.

W: Hamburger at home. Water.

J: Water bottle.

We learned about how water can take three forms: liquid, solid, and gas. We learned how the water cycle works and what it takes to turn water into ice or water vapor.

S: I know that! Water goes up and down, up and down.

R: Steam. It looks like smoke!

We learned that humans are made of 70% water, so it’s very important for us to drink water. We tried to think of other things that need water.

S: Elephant

P: Fish

S: Dolphin

K: Alligator

S: The orchids!

CROSSING THE DESERT

We role played pretending to be crossing a desert with nothing but water. Let’s all think of other things to take that would be helpful.

S: Backpack

M: Watermelon

P: Pear

J: Water to wash clothes.

K: Tent so we can sleep.

R: Toilet

E: Trees to keep us alive.

W: Apple

S: Chicken

J: Pillow

S: Leaf to play

WATER FILTRATION EXPERIMENT

We were challenged with the task of cleaning water filled with dirt. How can we clean water?

K: We can clean with a brush.

P: Wash it in the bathtub.

L: We put in soap.

We split into two teams and build water filters using rocks, fabric, and other items to clean dirty water.

Team 1 used rocks, marbles, and one feather, while Team 2 used a napkin, one rock, and one marble.

Both teams’ water was considerably cleaner after putting it through the filters, but Team 2’s napkin trapped almost all of the dirt and the water came out very clean!

We love experiments! Let’s keep learning about human and animal needs tomorrow!

Love,

Flowers
