Did you come from an egg?

Wednesday 5th November

Hello everyone,

Today we continued learning about growth inside our mummies but today we looked at the differences between how mammals are born by growing in our mommies and how other types of animals like reptiles, birds and insects are hatched in eggs.

Review:

R: babies!

J: babies are made in mommys belly

J: baby is size of a watermelon!

I: my mommy has two babies

M: maybe my sister Emma is the size of a pineapple now.

L: my mom doesn’t have a big tummy. She isn’t pregnant.

J: some animals have babies in their tummies.

E: chickens come from eggs that go from their bum!

R: kangaroos

M: elephants

J: gorilla

I: a house! Or a dog

Then we talked about animals that come from eggs.

I: duck

Rl: frog

K: chicken

P: kangaroo

E: mouse

S: snake

R: dinosaur

We split into teams and we played a matching game with a picture of a tummy and a picture of an egg.

L: rabbit should go to the egg because we eat egg for easter

E: turtles come from eggs because i saw a turtle drop eggs in the sea

I: Cow drinks milk from mommy so it comes from mommy belly

S: Caterpillars come from eggs because someone told me

W: hippo comes from egg because its like an egg

Everyone was a little confused about where animals came from until Shlomo told us about the word mammal

S: a mammal is an animal that drinks milk from its mom.

Thats right, mammals are animals that have warm blood and grow in their mommies tummys.

After this we read a book about eggs and we saw a picture of a chicken laying an egg. Peggy told us

P: it sits on its bum

P: hatch means chicken comes out of egg.

So we tried to hatch eggs of our own. We sat very still and quietly for two minutes on our chairs and when we finished… we opened our eggs and were so excited to see they had hatched colorful dinosaurs.

Have a great evening and we will see you tomorrow!
