My Five Senses: Hearing

Today we celebrated the birthday of M, K, R and T! We played bingo and decorated cupcakes. And to top it all off, they gave us gifts! Our tummies are so happy! Thank you, Mom and Dad, for coming and celebrating with us.
What’s special about today?
J: We need to open our eyes
H: It’s their birthday
Whose birthday are we celebrating?
P: R
J: K
S: M
I: T
• Questions for the birthday celebrants
J: What color do you like?
R: rainbow color
P: What fruit do you like?
K: tomato
J: What toy do you like?
M: Trump card
T: How are you feeling today?
T: ????
S: Shy?
After the party, we learned all about our sense of hearing. We learned how our ears help us listen to sounds. Before diving into today’s lesson, we revisited our past lessons.
What did we learn with Lucy and Cameron?
J: Maybe, the letter one *braille. C,X,O
T: smelling and eyes
Y: Taste
T: Touch
Our ears are amazing! They catch sounds in the air, and these sounds travel inside our ears and help our brain understand what we hear.
What do you think we are going to learn today?
J: yucky socks?
K: hearing
T: we hear with our ears
K: the word travels in the air
M: Then it goes to your mouth, because you talk
H: It goes to your brain, so you can hear it.
Question of the day: Do you hear your friends if you cover your ears?
K/ H: * read the question of the day
P: Yes, we can hear a little bit
K:If you don’t do strong push, you can’t hear it
K: because not listening
J: No, if it’s too loud, we need to close our ears
S: no
C: (we can hear) a little bit
We then wore headphones while our friends said words softly. We noticed it was hard to hear, and some couldn’t hear at all.
K: cat M (guessing): baby
R: candle K(guessing): candle
J: balloon J(guessing): candle
T: bear Y (guessing): bear

After that, we learned that animals hear differently than us. Some animals hear much better than us. Dogs can hear higher sounds than we do, and elephants can hear deep sounds coming from the ground.
Animals with good hearing
J: hamster
S: mouse
S: cat
M: Cheetah
H: dog
K: elephant because they have big ears
P: elephant has giant ears

We then played the game “Protecting Baby Animals”. We took turns pretending to be the mommy fox. While blindfolded we used our ears to protect our baby (fox plushy) from lions. We listened carefully for every sound to protect our baby.
H (mommy fox): I’ll pick it up with my mouth
T/ Y/S/ M: *ate the baby fox
P (mommy fox): I want to hold it. * She saved her baby fox from the lion
S/ K/ J/ J : lions * ate the baby fox after second try.
Today was an exciting day filled with listening and giggles! Besides the birthday party, today is also the last day for C, H, T, and Y. We had so much fun having you all here in Flowers! Please come and visit us when you have some time. See you all tomorrow!
Love,
Flowers
