My Super Shield Skin

Good afternoon, everyone!

Today we continued to learn about our skin. We learned that the skin is the largest organ of our body. It covers us from head to toe!

  • Review

R: You put finger in pencil and put it on the paper, to get fingerprint

Do we have the same fingerprint?

E: Yes!

I: We did the balloon game

  • Introduction

S: My skin can stretch

J: I can do this (* makes scratch gesture)

J: I can stretch my skin for only 5 seconds

If you stretch, what will happen?

J: brown?

R: longer

  • Question of the day: Does your skin stretch?

J: *reads the question of the day

K: I said Yes!

T: 9! *Counts friends who said yes

C: 5! * Counts friends who said no

To prove that our skin can stretch just like a rubber glove, we looked in the mirror and observed if our skin stretches when we open our mouth. We also tried to pinch ourselves to see if our skin will stretch and go back to its original size.

K: shiny mirror

J: my skin did stretch but not anymore

E: only a little stretch

J: My skin is helping. I know it!

K: My brother can stretch his skin

T: I’m not covered in skin… (I’m) covered in dinosaur

E: It’s the largest part of the body!

J: When I was a baby, it’s not the same

What happens when we open our mouths?

S: It stretches!

M: it(skin) goes back. (when our mouth is close)

What happens when we pinch ourselves?

R: ouchie!

E: It stretches!

We asked ourselves, why is skin so important? We learned that our skin protects us from germs entering our body. Then we did the Egg Experiment. Our teacher showed us an egg and shared that just like our skin the eggshell protects the egg yolk inside. When a friend dropped the egg, it cracked and spilled everywhere. Without its shell, the egg yolk had no protection. That is why our skin is so important. It helps all our inside parts safe!

Why do we need our skin?

S: So germs don’t get in our body!

J: Germs can jump in your body

What will happen if we don’t have skin?

M: You’ll die!

What is inside our body?

R: muscle

E: bones

J: brain

What do you think is inside this egg?

R: Egg yolk

I: There’s a baby chicken inside

R: Let’s check

  • Egg Experiment

P: * dropped the egg

W: (the shell is) broken!

I: the baby chicken came out

We can make tamagoyaki

J: yummy!

Why is the shell important to baby chicken?

S: it protects (just like skin protects us)

To make our learning more interesting, we played Skin, Shield and Tag! Lucy (Germs) tried to touch the bones, muscles and blood while we tried to protect them.

Who wants to pretend to be the muscle, bones, and blood?

F: ME!

S: I want to be bones

M: muscle

K: blood

M: All of the Sempai!!

R: I don’t want to play.

Did the germs touch our muscles, bones and blood?

F: NO!!

E: I want to be the bones

J: me muscle

Lastly, we sat down and discussed a special plant, the Orchid! We learned that each part of the plant has its job to help it grow. We also shared how we can take care of it.

What did you see at the park?

J: Ant

E: rocks!

S: flower

Can you think of other flowers you know?

R: sunflower

W: Yes!

K: Daddy said, it will die. People (will die)too!

E: I will say, “Flower, Flower, please grow!

I: the roots grow and grow and grow!

It was a fun day! See you tomorrow!
