Introducing Picasso!

Wonderful Wednesday! We started our morning finishing up our free painting activity and playing with the play dough. We also played with the mega blocks in the building area! We packed away our toys early so we could go play a little at the park before it got too hot. We played ball at the Iki Iki plaza park for a little bit then came back to Petals for a fun little activity about colors!

Nimo lined up some frogs on the floor in front of us.

I: A green frog!

E: They are all green.

L: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5!

A: 5 green frogs!

We sang “Five Green Speckled Frog” as we played with the toy frogs!

E: Now there’s 4!

H: *Holds up four fingers*

Petals 3, 2 1…

M: Zero!

H: No no (no more)

After our song, Nimo got the other colors and said the names of the colors.

I: Red!

H: Blue!

S: Yellow!

Y: Green.

A: Orange

L: *Repeated his teacher* Purple.

For today, we focused on the three primary colors. We used the tweezers to pick up the color our teachers asked us to get and put them in a small bowl of the same color.

Before we started our circle time, we sang the “Rainbow Song” and looked for things that were blue, red, and yellow in the classroom. We did our morning routine then talked about our Artist of the Month, Picasso.

E: (Calendar Helper) Today is Wednesday, 3rd.

A: (Class Counter) 10!

Y: (Music Assistant played the ukulele)

Nimo: This is Picasso. Can you say hello?

A: Hello, Picasso!

Picasso loved to paint and he liked to use lots of colors and shapes to make people’s faces. As a class we pointed out some of the colors and shapes we saw in a few of Picasso’s paintings.

M: I like painting.

E: Me too!

Nimo: Does anyone see any shapes?

A: *Pointed at a triangle*

Nimo: Who can find a circle?

I: Here!

Nimo: Any other shapes?

H: *Pointed at a rectangle*

Nimo: You found a rectangle!

H: Rectangle.

Nimo: Do you remember this person’s name?

L: Picasso!

Nimo: Picasso lives in Spain and this is what his hometown looks like. Do you know where you live?

E: (We live) Here, school.

Nimo: We are in school. Ohana is in Ja…p…

E: Japan!

Our teachers put up the pictures of Picasso’s hometown in the building area so we could use the blocks to make some of the pretty buildings if we wanted.

We did a quick activity reviewing how we play with our friends in Petals then took a quick brain break doing some yoga! Today, we did the Elephant, Frog, Kangaroo, and Mouse pose!

We finished our circle time with a book, “What Does It Mean To Be Kind?” by Rana DiOrio and Stephane Jorisch.

Nimo: It is kind to give compliments to your friends. Forgiving someone who has hurt you and sharing treats.

E: Sometimes after dinner, my daddy gives me a treat. He gives me chocolate!

S: Chocolate, yum!

A: My daddy gives me chocolate mushrooms. I love chocolate mushrooms! I like mushroom soup too.

M: I like chocolate too!

Thank you all for another fabulous day! We hope you all have a great evening and we will see you again tomorrow!

Love,

Petals
