After greeting our friends and teachers in the morning, we quickly took care of our jobs then worked on our snowflakes and weaving activity! Our new morning activity is called a silhouette puzzle our teachers made! On a small whiteboard, our teachers are going to trace toys and we need to match the silhouette with the toy! Today, our teachers traced the magnet letters we have been playing with! We also had a set of jigsaw puzzles on one of the tables too!
We packed away our toys and practiced our songs for the Winter Party, then updated our Calendar.
Nimo: Yesterday was?
M: 1!
N: First
M: December!
We sang the “Months of the Year” song and reviewed the names of the months.
Nimo: How many months are there?
M: 12! Then, it go back to 1, January. Then, it’s A’s Happy Birthday! My Happy birthday is 6, June.
H: What about me?
Nimo: Your birthday is in July.
H: Yay!
H: H?
Nimo: Your birthday is very soon! Do you remember what season we are in?
N: Cold!
L: Winter party!
E: Not sunny today.
Nimo: Let’s take a look at this book and review the other seasons!
Petals: Spring! Summer! Fall!
Nimo: What colors do you see in Fall?
L: Look! Tree! I like orange.
N: Fox!
H: H like yellow.
Y: Red.
Nimo: Fall in Japanese is Aki.
N: I don’t know Aki.
Nimo: After fall is?
L: Winter!
M: Snow!
Nimo: What colors do you see in Winter?
Y: Black
S: Here (tree) black!
L: Purple
N: Squirrel
L: White.
N: A tree! Cold!
Before our little experiment our teachers prepared, we revisited our story from yesterday, “The Snowy Day”.
M: It’s winter! Winter is cold because snow. Peter make a snowball.
L: Snow, in pocket.
Nimo: Do you remember what happened to the snowball Peter put in his pocket?
N: Melt.
Nimo showed us a picture of one of our words of the week, “Melt”.
Nimo: What do you see in this picture?
L: Koori. Ice.
H: Ice!
M: Ice is cold.
H: Ice is koori.
L: It’s melting!
Our teachers prepared a fun little sensory activity with ice cubes! First, we counted all the cubes on the table.
Petals: 1, 2, 3, … 27!
We each took an ice cube and squeezed them in our hands!
Nimo: How does the ice feel?
E: So cold!
Nimo: Why is our hands getting wet?
M: Ice melted!
N: (Turning into) Water!
Next, our teachers got a bowl full of warm water and we put our fingers inside to feel the difference.
M: Is it hot?
Nimo: No it’s not hot, this water is warm, so it is not ouchie to touch! What do you think will happen if we put the ice and the warm water together?
N: Ice will melt!
M: And turn into water!
We learned today that ice and snow melt when they get warm and they turn into water! For our next experiment, we filled the ice tray with some water.
Nimo: If we put this water in somewhere it is cold, what do you think will happen?
L: Put it back?
Nimo: Yes, in the freezer. What will happen to the water?
Petals: Hmm…
Nimo: Let’s find out tomorrow!
Petals: Okay!
Before we went to the park we read a story called, “Stick Man” by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler. In the book the poor Stick Man was taken away from his house and used for different things. He eventually gets freed when the snowman melted and Santa Claus takes him back home to his family!
We played at Step Park then came back and had our lunch! Tomorrow we will go to the fire station to see the fire fighters and fire trucks!
Thank you all for another fabulous day! Have a great evening and see you all again tomorrow!
Love,
Petals
